We have an opportunity available for a Technical Writer to support our client with ongoing network infrastructure documentation.
Duration: 6 Months, possibility to extend
Contract Designation: Hybrid, 3 days in Office, 2 days remote Location: Jersey City, NJ with occasional travel to NYC
Position Overview: We are seeking a talented Technical Writer to join our team at a leading financial institution. As a Technical Writer specializing in IT Network Documentation, you will be responsible for creating clear, concise, and accurate documentation for our network infrastructure and related systems. You will collaborate closely with network engineers, IT architects, and other technical experts to produce high-quality documentation that supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of our network environment while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
Responsibilities:
· Work closely with network engineers and IT architects to gather information and understand the technical aspects of our network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and network security systems.
· Develop comprehensive documentation for network configurations, installation procedures, troubleshooting guides, and best practices to support network operations and maintenance.
· Translate technical concepts and jargon into clear, concise, and accessible documentation tailored to various audiences, including network administrators, IT support staff, and end-users.
· Collaborate with compliance and regulatory teams to ensure documentation complies with industry regulations, such as PCI-DSS, GLBA, and SOX, and internal security policies and standards.
· Create and maintain network diagrams, topology maps, and inventory lists to provide visual representations of our network architecture and aid in troubleshooting and planning activities.
· Participate in project meetings and technical reviews to understand project requirements and gather documentation needs, and ensure documentation is delivered on time and within scope.
· Conduct regular reviews and audits of existing documentation to identify areas for improvement, update outdated content, and ensure accuracy and completeness.
· Work closely with cross-functional teams, including network operations, IT security, and software development, to incorporate feedback and ensure documentation reflects the latest changes and updates.
· Stay informed about emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in networking and IT documentation, and proactively identify opportunities to improve documentation processes and standards.
· Assist in developing and delivering training materials and presentations to educate staff on network-related topics and ensure effective use of documentation resources.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent work experience in the financial industry.
· Proven experience, 5-10 years, as a technical writer, creating documentation for IT network infrastructure, systems, or services.
· Strong understanding of Cisco networking concepts, protocols, and technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and switching.
· Familiarity with network security principles and best practices, including access control, encryption, VPNs, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
· Proficiency in documentation tools and software, such as Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, SharePoint, Confluence, or MadCap Flare.
· Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
· Experience working in a regulated industry, such as finance or banking, and knowledge of regulatory requirements, such as PCI-DSS, GLBA, or SOX, is desirable.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all aspects of documentation, including grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
