What you’ll need to succeed as a Tech Program Intern III (Data Science) at XPO:
Minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent and currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree
- 2 or more years of relevant undergraduate coursework
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with administrative processes
- Interest/openness to learn/explore about Less-Than-Truckload business and usage of data science and AI methods/tools to support complex strategic/tactical/operational business decisions
- Good organizational skills with the ability to multitask
- Great verbal and written communication skills
Preferred qualifications:
- Background or education in a in a STEM-based field (ie. Data Science, Computer Science, Operations Research, Economics, Applied Math, Statistics, etc.)
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Understanding of Database concepts
- Basic knowledge of any data visualization tools
- Demonstrated ability analyzing technical and non-technical problems by developing research questions, implementing appropriate analytical methods, and presenting results
- Practical experience with scripting/programming languages such as SQL/Python/Java on development platforms like PyCharm/IntelliJ; code management services such as Git; Agile Software Development practices such as Jira/Confluence; commercial optimization software such as Cplex/Gurobi/Xpress.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to present clean, organized and thorough information and data appropriate for intended audience
- Knowledge in supporting decision making through mathematical modeling and performance measuring, implementation, operationalization and scalability of scientific techniques/advanced algorithms
- Solid organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
- Ability to be open-minded and receptive to feedback in an intellectually rigorous environment
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy
- Energetic work style with a strong drive to succeed
About the Tech Program Intern III (Data Science) job
What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Participate in the development and implementation of basic machine learning models under supervision.
- Collaborate with team members to integrate machine learning models and Generative AI technologies into business applications.
- Gain understanding and experience with various functions of the transportation and logistics industry
- Participate in projects in the areas of logistics, network design, transportation and optimization
- Work with business process owners to identify and scope areas of opportunity
- Build strong relationships and collaborations with senior leadership to support company goals
- Develop hands-on experience with continuous improvement projects and Lean principles; utilize and enhance your problem-solving skills while contributing to special assignments
