PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote the mission, values and vision of Hibiscus Children’s Center
Communicate necessary information to staff, therapists and tutors specific to client academic progress and learning styles of the children
Develop and maintain good working relationships and open communication with Hibiscus staff, school administrators, teachers, surrogate parents, other adult colleagues and volunteers as appropriate
Provide information to the treatment team, as needed
Provide classroom teaching and tutoring to the children that are enrolled in the GED Program and the other children in our program, with an understanding of secondary student developmental learning and learning for students that are traumatized
Ability to be flexible and think “outside the box” in order for students to achieve high school diplomas and academic success
Develop and implement lesson plans for each of the subjects and curriculums that are taught in the GED Program, middle and high school, in accordance with the State of Florida’s Educational Standards
Schedule, coordinate and oversee tutors for all children
Establish and maintain over site of the library and literacy resource materials for clients served at the Village
Provide supervision and positive model to youth
Attend all training sessions, as assigned
Assemble documentation and results to demonstrate improved proficiency of clients served
Document behaviors of GED students and other children and communicate with Hibiscus staff daily
Prepare monthly report of GED hours and school work completed on each student
Maintain order and cleanliness in the work area

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
Experience working in a secondary school setting and individualizing curriculum, lesson plans and learning materials. Secondary Special Education experience and Certification in the State of Florida as Professional Educator; preferred.
Meets all staff requirements specified in Florida Administrative Code Chapter
65C-14
High technological competence with ability to explore and then implement computer assisted learning
Extensive knowledge of instructional assessment and data acquisition.
Experienced (or willingness) to keep data, communicate data results, reflect on data and write reports regarding results
Ability to coordinate and supervise volunteer tutors and help with scheduling
Understanding of educational systems and procedures; knowledge of local school system and alternative educational venues
Public speaking skills
Ability to lift 20 pounds
Meets requirements to drive agency vehicles, including valid Florida Driver’s License
SKILLS:
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of school district policy and code
Knowledge of cognitive strategies and interventions, special education needs and programs
Experience with child abuse and/or neglect
Ability to work independently and set priorities
Time management skills
Ability to lead discussions and communicate effectively
Ability to interact with diverse cultures
Ability to supervise and manage children of different ages in a single group and to apply the behavior management program
