Compensation: $17.28 - $18.78 /hr
Program Hours: Mon – Fri 7:30am – 3:30pm
Supervisory Responsibility: None
The Kayne Eras School serves students with Special Needs in grades K-12. Our school is focused on engaging students in ‘hands-on’ Experiential Learning. We offer art, music, dance, theatre, off-site trips, sports, virtual reality, poetry, vocational opportunities, and many other activities because we want our kids to have every chance to find joy in learning. Our staff are engaged in all of our activities and their creativity and input into all aspects of our school is welcomed and encouraged. We are a very special school always looking for very special staff members!

Education/Licenses/Certifications: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year working with children with special needs, learning, behavioral, emotional and/or developmental disabilities in a direct service capacity.
This is a school environment for students (K–12th grade) who have varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities. Employee may encounter students who are in crisis, exhibiting emotional/psychological distress or behaving in an aggressive manner. Administrative work will be performed in a separate office. However, incumbent will circulate in classrooms, outdoors, and other locations for meetings and special events. Environment may include frequent interruptions, loud noise, odors, varying indoor temperature, and drafts. Outdoor temperature and weather will vary.
Employee may not be in a room alone with a student unless the door or blinds are open. Students must never be left unattended.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Teacher Assistant provides support to students who have learning, emotional, and developmental challenges.
Classroom
- Following the teacher’s instruction, circulate through the classroom checking students’ work and providing assistance in completing assignments.
- Support the classroom team in the development/implementation/fulfillment of the students’ goals, IEP goals, and objectives, especially as they pertain to problem solving and behavior.
- Attend conferences with the families, as necessary.
- Provide active supervision during all recreational activities, as well during breakfast and lunch.
- Assist with tracking attendance, calling parents, and managing the classroom PBIS Program.
Student
- Remain within physical proximity of assigned student(s) at all times.
- Assist with individual student’s emotional/psychological needs.
- Maintain professional appearance, demeanor, and boundaries.
Other Duties
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Attend and participate in ECF Kayne Eras School in-service training sessions, staff meetings, weekly core and/or team meetings, programs and activities as requested.
- Perform reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.
Qualifications
Education/Licenses/Certifications: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year working with children with special needs, learning, behavioral, emotional and/or developmental disabilities in a direct service capacity.
Requirements
- Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, evidence of car insurance, and insurable driving record.
- Pass a DOJ background investigation.
- Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.
- Pass a pre-employment physical.
- Comply with ECF’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
- Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.

- Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, and others.
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to implement/perform First Aid, CPR, and NCI.

- Ability to handle objects, tools, operate copy machine, fax machine, printer, computers, and/or other devices.
