GENERAL SUPERVISOR: Superintendent
JOB GOAL:To develop in each pupil develop competencies in basic mathematical skills and understanding of the structure of mathematics; to motivate each pupil to apply mathematical understanding and skills in the solution of practical problems; to encourage pupils to develop their special talents in the field of mathematics.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach courses in mathematics to Middle and High School pupils utilizing teaching and student competencies and the curriculum/bilingual curriculum adopted by the Board of Education.
- Instruct pupils in citizenship, expected student behavior, and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develop lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids stressing “discovery” and laboratory learning methods.
- Demonstrate mathematical concepts using models, chalk board, overhead projector, computers and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
- Provide opportunities when needed for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Design learning activities that will relate mathematics to the physical world.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Evaluate each pupil’s progress in mathematics knowledge and skills.
- Select and requisition books, instructional aids and instructional supplies; and maintain required inventory records.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the classroom.
- Communicate with parents bi-weekly, monthly or sooner as the need arises to discuss the student’s progress and behavior.
- Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
- Participate in curriculum alignment, benchmarks, performance standards/assessments and revisions, inclusive of bilingual development programs and implements EPSS.
- Gather data in order to develop strategies for student improvement.
- Share in the sponsorship of student activities such as mathematics teams, to include in and out of school activities and participates in faculty committees.
- Maintain professional competencies through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self selected professional growth activities.
- Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
- Administer Group Standardized Tests in accordance with district testing program.
- Administer the Language Assessment Scale Testing and Scoring in both English and Spanish.
- Attend board meetings at the request of the Superintendent or his/her authorized designee.
- Perform all other assigned tasks required by the supervisor(s).
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
Term of employment is to be established on an annual basis, through the adoption of the school calendar.
SALARY:
Salary to be established on an annual basis, through the adoption of the salary schedules.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Professional Personnel.
