Cohen & Co. is seeking a motivated Senior Accountant or Manager to join our Regulated Investment Company (RIC) tax team. You will be responsible for preparing complex tax returns, managing client engagements, leading tax consulting projects, and providing mentorship to junior staff members. Tax Strategy & Compliance:
- Senior Accountant Level:
- Prepare complex RIC tax returns and perform detailed reviews of work papers, allocations, and tax returns.
- Research tax planning opportunities and contribute to consulting projects.
- Communicate with clients to gather information and ensure accuracy in tax return preparation.
- Work closely with engagement teams to provide tax compliance and consulting services.
- Support the team in addressing complex tax issues and applying solutions to clients' tax challenges.
Manager Level:
- Oversee the management of client engagements, ensuring all deadlines are met and client expectations are exceeded.
- Calculate the tax effects of transactions and conduct technical tax research.
- Handle billing/WIP management and work closely with tax partners to manage client expectations.
- Review tax returns, ensuring the quality of work and compliance with regulations.
- Coordinate multiple engagement teams’ schedules, ensuring effective project management.
Client Experience:
- Develop strong relationships with clients, understanding their unique tax needs and providing high-quality tax advice.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients, ensuring ongoing satisfaction and confidence in the firm's services.
- Continuously assess each client's evolving tax needs and provide proactive recommendations.
- Communicate regularly with clients to gather information for tax filings and ensure timely submission of tax returns.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and mentor junior staff members, fostering their professional growth and helping them develop their technical expertise.
- Promote a collaborative team environment and encourage knowledge sharing.
- Provide guidance and support to staff and senior staff on client engagements and complex tax issues.
- Exhibit leadership and provide motivation to the team by creating an environment of professional development.
- Take an active role in the firm’s growth, with opportunities to contribute to business development and client management activities.
Technical Expertise:
- Maintain a strong understanding of RIC tax issues, including compliance, regulatory requirements, and industry trends.
- Provide technical leadership to the team and serve as a go-to resource for complex tax issues.
- Advise clients on a variety of consulting and compliance engagements related to RICs, including tax credits, entity structures, and tax planning strategies.
- Conduct tax research on a wide variety of tax issues, including those unique to the regulated investment company sector.
Required:
Senior Level
- CPA or qualifications completed to pursue CPA
- 2+ years of progressive experience at a public accounting firm
- Basic understating of challenges related to RIC tax returns
- Proficiency in juggling multiple priorities while working with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience reviewing tax returns done by staff and making recommendations on return preparation regarding accuracy and tax savings opportunities
- Experience preparing returns for more complex RICs and demonstrate an understanding of increasingly complex tax concepts
Manager Level
- CPA or JD required
- 5+ years of progressive experience at a public accounting firm
- Solid understating of challenges related to RIC returns.
- A practical understanding of tax credits and incentives
- Proficiency in juggling multiple priorities while managing internal and external stakeholders
- Enthusiasm for coaching and developing team members
- Experience advising clients on a variety of consulting and compliance engagements on RICs
- Experience conducting tax research and analyzing a wide variety of tax issues
All Levels
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills
- Positive attitude and willingness to be a team player
- Excellent time and project management skills
- Ability to maintain and develop strong relationships with clients and internally to meet or exceed expectations
- Willingness and ability to learn new concepts with minimal guidance
- Strong external and internal communication required, due to client facing role and importance of strong partnership with internal engagement teams
- Understanding of Outlook, Excel, Word, Adobe, etc. Required
- Strong understanding of CCH Axcess required
- Develop strong relationships internally, and flexibility are required and keys to success
- Initiative to learn, ask questions, operate in a fast-paced environment, challenge the status quo

Estimated Salary Range: $70,000 - 125,000* Manager: $85,000 - 155,000*
