About the Job
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Tax Manager to join our clients’ finance team. The Tax Manager will play a key role in managing all aspects of the company’s tax compliance and reporting, including quarterly tax provisions, tax planning, and federal, state, and international tax filings. This position will ensure compliance with US GAAP (ASC 740) and support the company’s tax strategies, including the annual R&D Tax Credit study.
It is preferred that this role be based in a hybrid capacity in Tampa, FL, but it can also be remote with quarterly travel to the Tampa headquarters.
As the Tax Manager, your typical day may involve:
Quarterly Tax Provisions:
- Oversee the quarterly and annual tax provision process, including the preparation and review of deferred tax assets and liabilities, as well as the reconciliation of the effective tax rate, ensuring compliance with US GAAP (ASC 740).
- Analyze and manage deferred tax balances, ensuring proper accounting and reporting, while identifying potential areas for optimization.
- Oversee the calculation and reconciliation of the effective tax rate, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal and external audit requirements.
- Support and oversee the annual Research & Development (R&D) Tax Credit study, ensuring proper documentation, calculation, and compliance with tax regulations.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and timely filing of US Federal, State, and International tax returns, including the calculation of international tax provisions such as FTC, FDII, GILTI, and BEAT.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for tax audits and inquiries from federal, state, and international tax authorities, providing accurate documentation and resolving any tax-related issues.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement tax planning strategies that optimize the company's tax position and ensure compliance with changing tax laws.
- Monitor and manage transfer pricing policies to ensure compliance with international tax regulations.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of all tax-related activities, including tax filings, provision workpapers, and audit support.
What You'll Need to Be a Top Candidate
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field from a four-year institution. The bachelor's degree is a minimum educational requirement for this position, and cannot be waived.
- Preferred Certifications: Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) will be bonus.
- Required Experience: 5+ years’ of progressive tax experience.
- Preferred Experience: Experience in an international tax department, a major public accounting firm (Big 4) and experience within the manufacturing industry is a bonus.
Skills & Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of US GAAP (ASC 740) and tax compliance regulations
- Experience managing tax provisions, deferred tax assets/liabilities, and effective tax rate reconciliation
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and international tax laws and regulations
- Experience with R&D tax credits and transfer pricing.
- Proven ability to manage tax audits and collaborate with external advisors
- Tax Compliance: Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for the organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Intercompany Transactions: Manage and document large intercompany transactions, including transfer pricing, intercompany agreements, and reconciliations, ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
- Medicare Advantage Experience: Apply specialized knowledge of Medicare Advantage tax regulations to optimize tax planning and compliance.
- Multi-Location Tax Filings: Oversee and manage tax filings across multiple locations, ensuring consistency and compliance with jurisdictional requirements.
- Tax Planning: Assist in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize the company’s financial position.
- Tax Research: Conduct in-depth tax research to ensure compliance with changing tax laws, and provide guidance on tax-related issues.
- Financial Reporting: Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate tax-related financial reporting and disclosures in accordance with GAAP.
- Audit Support: Assist with tax audits, providing necessary documentation and liaising with external auditors as required.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of tax compliance and reporting functions.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to junior tax staff, fostering their professional development.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or MST (Master of Science in Taxation) is strongly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of tax accounting experience, with a preference for candidates from public accounting or those with Medicare Advantage, multi-location, and large intercompany experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in tax preparation software, advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with tax research tools. Experience with Oracle NetSuite, QBO, or similar accounting software is a plus.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws, particularly related to healthcare, Medicare Advantage, and multi-location operations.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations and apply them to real-world scenarios.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present tax-related information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
