Overview:
As a member of the General Dynamics Marine Segment Tax Team, based at Electric Boat Corporation in Groton, Connecticut, the Tax Manager will partner with key business leaders and other members of the General Dynamics corporate tax department to understand key business facts and analyze/advise on the tax effects of business activity. The Tax Manager will assume primary responsibility for, or oversight of, various tax planning, tax provision, and tax compliance work streams relating to General Dynamics Marine Segment business units, including:
- US Federal, State, and Local income tax projections and compliance
- State and local indirect tax analysis and compliance
- Supporting General Dynamics corporate headquarters Tax department on IRS and State income tax audit inquiries
- Liaising with internal and external financial statement and government contracting auditors
- Close coordination and frequent collaboration with other General Dynamics tax personnel, particularly the corporate headquarters Tax department, on various company tax matters
- Close coordination and frequent collaboration with Marine Segment business unit leaders in finance, legal, human resources, and operations to track and advise on tax effects of proposed and existing business activity and ensure proper reporting of the tax effects of business decisions
- Identify and implement continuous improvements to tax department processes
- Support technology and financial reporting projects (such as ERP systems updates) from a tax perspective
- Regular travel (approximately 5 business days per quarter) to other General Dynamics locations, likely including the corporate headquarters in Reston, VA and other Marine Segment business units in Bath, ME and San Diego, CA
- Position requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
Required:
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in accounting, tax, or finance
- Must have a CPA or Law degree
- Minimum of five (5) years relevant corporate tax experience
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in Taxation
- Accounting Firm or Law Firm experience
- Corporate tax department experience helpful
- Strong interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills essential
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization
- Familiarity with Tax/Accounting/Research software packages: Corptax Tax & Provision Systems (a plus), Thomson Reuters RIA Checkpoint and Bloomberg BNA Tax
- Familiarity with ASC 740 and Sarbanes-Oxley preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office, capability and willingness to learn relevant business systems
- Willingness & ability to travel regularly (approximately 5 business days per quarter)
