Salary range - $124,000-$148,000
This is not a remote position. Candidates must currently be willing to work a hybrid schedule of 4 days on-site and 1 day remote. Therefore, we are only considering candidates who live within a commutable distance from our Corporate Office located in Des Plaines, IL.
Position Overview:
CJ Logistics America has an exciting opportunity to join its Tax Team as a Tax Manager. The tax team is responsible for the tax provision, U.S. income tax reporting (federal, state, and U.S. international reporting), tax controversy, mergers and acquisitions support, indirect tax reporting, and special projects. The tax manager will collaborate with the tax director to implement tax strategies in order to reduce the Company’s overall tax burden and risk.
In this role, the Tax Manager will report to the Senior Director of Tax and interact with all departments in the organization, and external tax firms, as well as C-Suite level personnel. The tax department is evolving and growing. This role is perfect for an individual who wants to elevate their career and offers a path to move into a lead tax role for the Company.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Year End Tax Provisions - Prepare/review the Year End Tax provisions to comply with ASC 740, including Book to Tax calculations, effective tax rate, current provision, deferred tax asset/liability provision, taxes payable, valuation allowance analysis, and return to provision adjustments. This includes effectively communicating and working with the outside tax accounting firm.
- Tax Estimates & Extensions - Prepare/review the quarterly estimates and extensions for the federal and approximately 25 state returns,
- Tax Return compliance - review, research, and planning - Assist in the review and filing of the corporate federal & state income tax returns and international information returns, including preparing and reviewing tax work papers and apportionment. Note that the tax returns are co-sourced with our outside accounting firm.
- Indirect Tax – Oversight and management of the used tax computations by the TR Onesource Tax Engine prepared by accounting staff.
- Tax Controversy – Support the tax audit defense/tax controversy process by analyzing and reviewing information requests and collaborating in the resolution of audit issues and notices.
- Technical Research - Prepare memorandums and research various complex tax issues to determine the appropriate tax treatment and related tax reporting
- M&A and Special Projects - Support mergers, acquisitions, reorganization, and business initiatives, and all Special Projects such as R&D and Transfer Pricing Studies.
- Technology and Automation - Lead the evolution of tax technology tools and support technology enhancements.
- Continuous Improvement - Help drive the continuous improvement of tax processes and procedures as the company expands in both new and established markets
- Communication – effectively collaborate across tax disciplines and the wider company matrix for tax-related work executed outside of the tax department including special projects such as R&D Credit studies and Transfer Pricing Studies and assisting in related tax matters in other departments such as payroll. Assist in managing consulting relationships and outside tax firms.
- Support and provide guidance to the Executive Management Team on various tax matters and advise on upcoming law changes.
- Other - Perform other related job duties as required, within the scope of training and expertise.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
- Advanced Degree strongly preferred
- CPA Required
- 4-5+ years’ accounting experience (3+ years in public accounting minimum required) including at least:
- 4-5+ years of federal and state corporate income tax compliance experience; and
- 3+ years of tax provision experience (ASC 740)
- Strong interpersonal skills and consistent follow-through on assigned tasks
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office required
- Ability to work independently in a highly organized manner and in a team environment
- Strong aptitude for identifying and implementing process improvements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Integrity and sound judgment in all decisions and interactions aligned with our values and policies and external regulations.
- Ability to work in a hybrid capacity – 1 day remote and 4 days in the office per week
