United States X Advisors California, a growing public accounting firm with offices in Sherman Oaks and West Los Angeles, is looking for a Tax Director to join our team! The Tax Director will report to the Partners of the firm. The ideal candidate will exhibit high standards, excellent communication skills, have an ability to take initiative, and prioritize daily tasks. A strong ability to take charge and meet tight deadlines will ensure your success in this multi-faceted role.

Summary
- Help lead and manage the tax department, including oversight of tax planning, compliance, and consulting services
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, offering insights and strategies for tax optimization and compliance
- Collaborate with firm leadership on growth strategies and client relationship development
- Mentor and develop a team of high-performing tax professionals, fostering a supportive and challenging environment
- Stay at the forefront of tax law changes and industry trends, ensuring our firm provides the most innovative solutions
Responsibilities
- Review individual, partnership, corporate and trust tax returns prepared by staff and senior staff from client accounting records and information
- Review various engagement related workpapers and other client documents related to individual, partnership, corporate and trust tax returns
- Review other tax compliance filings prepared by staff and senior staff from client accounting records and information (1099’s, business license, personal property, etc.)
- Review various, complex tax planning and projection projects
- Perform, interpret, and apply tax research – must possess expertise in relevant IRS Sections and Regulations
- Lead on helping with various tax notices and audits from the IRS or state governments
- Stay current with industry guidance and other firm-provided education
- Consult and interface directly with clients on various topics and services, and apply technical expertise and interpret laws, regulations and standards to formulate client related recommendations
- Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Expert-level knowledge of tax preparation software and tax research solutions
- Lead and/or assist with departmental and firm-level administrative and oversight functions (project tracking, training, client billing, etc.)
- Lead and/or assist with assessing department training topics and/or needs, and assess software usage, etc.
- Must have good communication skills and be proficient with various communication platforms (email, IP-phone, Zoom, etc.)
- Must be able to provide on-the-job training and feedback from engagement-to-engagement with staff and senior staff
- Must have good organizational skills in order to monitor, oversee and manage multiple engagements at varying stages at all times
- Other related duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- Four-year college degree and must hold a CPA license (a master’s degree in a related field of study – MBA, MST, etc. – is a plus)
- More than 10 consecutive years of public accounting experience
- Extensive knowledge of federal and state tax regulations, with a track record of advising complex clients
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for client service and team development
