This position is a tax auditor who conducts projects with varying levels of complexity for all taxes administered by the Department. Auditors in this position will determine whether taxpayers have remitted the proper amount of state taxes or are required to file returns. Discovery auditors are also responsible for assisting in the administration of Michigan’s Voluntary Disclosure Program.   Discovery auditors work in an office or telework environment or a combination of both and will communicate with taxpayers through letters, phone, and email.  Auditors will also contact companies or tax professionals who have requested Voluntary Disclosure.  This work is done in an independent and team environment. Training is provided for all projects and auditors will progress to more complex projects and duties as they advance and learn.

PLEASE NOTE:  New Hires for the Auditor/Financial Analyst classification will receive a one-time signing bonus of $2,500.  The bonus will be paid out as a $1,250 gross pay adjustment on the employee's first pay warrant and the remaining $1,250 will be paid upon completion of one year (2,080 hours) of satisfactory service.  If the employee leaves within one year of the appointment, they will be required to pay back the entire bonus.
