Description
Liberty Mutual Insurance's highly integrated tax organization provides a collegial framework to achieve results. As a Tax professional, you will contribute across all the key components of tax including compliance & financial reporting, planning & research, and audits. You will be exposed to an array of federal, international, and state tax issues, as well as strategies surrounding merger and acquisition transactions.
Responsibilities:
- Develop general corporate tax technical expertise as well as specialized tax knowledge. Perform research and provide memoranda supporting tax positions.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns, including quarterly estimates. Recommend and implement processes that improve the efficiency and accuracy of compliance related activities.
- Respond to complex inquiries from business units and taxing authorities. Partner with business units and other departments within Corporate Financial to ensure the accuracy of tax returns and financial statement balances.
- Assist with tax controversies including responding to information document requests; anticipating future controversy issues; and evaluating the impact of proposed adjustments on the Company's current and future operations.
- Prepare tax-related financial statement calculations, entries, and disclosures.
- Timely and accurate preparation of compliance assignments; responsible for complete work-paper documentation and referencing.
- Develop general corporate tax technical expertise as well as specialized tax knowledge. Perform research and provide memoranda supporting tax positions.
- Assist with tax controversies including responding to information requests, preparing workpapers and gathering other supporting documentation.
Advanced Qualifications: Possess an advanced degree or certification, such as a Master of Science in Taxation (MST), Master of Science in Accounting (MSA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Juris Doctor (JD), to enhance professional expertise.
Industry Experience: Ideally, candidates will have experience in the insurance industry; however, this is not a strict requirement.
Tax Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of one year of experience in U.S. Federal tax, which includes financial reporting, compliance, audit, and planning. Experience with a major public accounting firm or large multinational corporation is preferred.
Motivation and Multitasking: The role requires a highly motivated individual capable of multitasking and meeting deliverables within tight time constraints and deadlines.
Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for conveying clear and concise information to both tax and non-tax audiences.
Interpersonal Skills: The ability to interact effectively with diverse personalities is crucial for fostering collaboration and maintaining positive relationships within the team and with clients.
- This role follows core Liberty Mutual’s working hours, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, Pacific Standard Time
Note: You will be required to go into the office twice a week if you reside within 50 miles of radius of our Boston, MA and Seattle, WA office. Please note this policy is subject to change.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Finance, Business (or BS degree and equivalent tax or accounting experience) plus a minimum of 1 year of related experience in Taxation required.
- Basic knowledge of corporate taxation and financial statement analysis, strong written and oral communication skills also required.
