At Superior Essex, the Tax Accountant is responsible for assisting the Corporate Tax department with Federal/State Taxes and other tax liabilities. This position also serves as the subject matter expert of U.S. domestic Sales and Use Tax and Canadian Goods and Services (GST) Tax.
Primary Responsibilities
* Prepares and completes Sales & Use and Canadian GST returns (monthly, quarterly, annual)
* Coordinates all Sales and Use and Canadian GST audits and responds to auditors’ notices
* Answers U.S. Sales & Use and Canadian GST questions regarding company mergers & acquisitions
* Assists with State Income Tax compliance including single entity and consolidated tax returns, estimated payments and extensions
* Assists with preparation of State apportionment schedules and business license tax filings
* Assists with state tax minimization strategy implementation and defense
* Reviews proposals for tax implications and recommends actions that meet business needs
* Generates reports in fixed assets software (Bassets and Sage) to determine depreciation deductions, gains/losses on asset dispositions and book/tax/state differences
* Gathers data and files annual United States and Canadian withholding tax returns
* Oversees all compliance audit queries related to cross boarder tax
* Maintains database of US FATCA compliance
* Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports from financial consolidation software (OneStream)
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or other Business Administration related field
* Two (2) years of public accounting in a corporate tax department
* Microsoft Office Suite, Electronic Tax Research Tools
Preferences
* Certified Public Accountant
* Experience with OneSource Income Tax (OIT) software
* Experience with e-filing Federal and State tax returns
Skills and Competencies
* Working knowledge and experience with State Sales & Use tax laws
* Basic knowledge of Canadian GST laws
* Understanding of US GAAP, Tax Return processes, FATCA requirements and 1042 and NR4 tax withholding filing requirements
* Good technology skills in order to pull reports from our financial systems software
* Ability to manage multiple deadlines with attention to detail on multiple projects
