Tank Farm Attendant
Responsibilities:
- Unload solvent tanker trucks per Work Instruction (WI).
- Unload solvent & propellant rail cars per WI.
- Verify material receipts for railcars and tank trucks – report inconsistencies to inventory clerk.
- Assist propellant tanker truck driver in unloading propellant into propellant tanks per Work Instruction.
- Hook up & use pumps, filters and hoses for chemical & waste transfer on a daily basis.
- Collect chemical & propellant samples and bring to lab for incoming inspection/testing.
- Record data from scales, meters and gauges in the tank farm area & send out inventory report on daily basis.
- Report any tank level gage or any other problems with pumps or tanks to facility maintenance department.
- Prepare tank farm for long weekend shut down/Startup tank from long weekend shutdown
- Keep solvent tanks full at all times to ensure compounding department can carry out their operations without interruption.
- Work with facility maintenance mechanics in maintaining tank farm equipment, pumps, storage tanks & piping in good operating condition.
- Complete all necessary paperwork as established for the work being performed.
- Participate in other duties as may be assigned by the department supervisor or manager.
Qualification Standards:
- High school diploma or higher level of education.
- Able to effectively communicate with fellow personnel verbally & in writing through e-mails etc.
- Complete training on all relevant SOPs & WIs within 90 days of taking on the position.
- Ability to read, write and understand English and have basic arithmetic skills (proficiency test required) with ability to do unit conversion.
- Prior industrial experience in tank farm operations is desirable.
- Ability to read & interpret SDS.
Other Requirements:
- Use all required PPE at all times.
- Complete OSHA Haz Com Training.
- Complete RCRA hazardous waste handling, SPCC & SWPPP training.
- Complete GMP training and follow applicable SOP’s.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the tank farm area at all times.
- Protect all storm drains in the tank farm from chemical contaminants.
- Observe all safety requirements & report any unsafe conditions to facility maintenance and/or the safety manager or head of engineering as needed.
- Act as a guide for Local Emergency Planning Committee in case of non incidental emergency spills in tank farm & compounding area
- Operate forklift truck as a certified driver.
- Operate tank farm emergency shutdown system as needed
- Respond to and clean up incidental spills in accordance with Local, State and Federal regulations.
- Know how to use small hand tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and roll up to 440 lbs using pallet truck & other equipment
- Ability to stand outside for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to work in an Industrial Environment.
