Position Summary:
A Researcher position is available in the laboratory of Dr. David Bedwell. As a Researcher, you will play a key role in driving scientific discovery by independently leading and executing research projects. This professional-level position demands a high degree of expertise and judgement in designing studies, analyzing data, and may involve assistants in publishing findings.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage project timelines, and contribute to grant writing and securing funding for future research. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research participant contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a large mouse core facility, including breeding, weaning, and genotyping (the core facility provides mice to cystic fibrosis researchers); Maintain detailed mouse core documentation; Perform molecular biology lab techniques such as DNA isolation and PCR for mouse genotyping.
- Assist with administration of therapies to mice; Perfusion of mice; Harvesting of mouse tissues for various CFTR assays; RNA isolation from mouse tissues, quantitative PCR, or digital PCR to genotype mice, examine gene expression, or determine gene copy number, respectively.
- Manage the maintenance of multiple mouse strains according to approved IACUC protocols; Document breeders and offspring; Generate working chemical solutions/reagents for various assays (buffers, agarose, etc.); Collect tail snips and isolate DNA for genotyping using PCR; Maintain detailed and accurate hard copy and database records of the mouse colony; Assist with other procedures as needed to characterize or treat mice.

Salary Range: %2450,050 - %2481,330
Master's degree in a related field OR Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Associate's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required or High School diploma or GED and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferred:
- Degree in biology, cell biology, molecular biology, biological sciences, or related life science field.
- Experience working in a research lab
- Experience working with mice
