SENIOR LICENSING ASSOCIATE
The HIIE houses UAB's technology transfer office, the UAB Research Foundation. We serve as the university hub for innovations developed by UAB faculty and staff, and we help create business relationships between UAB faculty and commercial entities in order to develop products from discoveries, inventions, and research generated on our campus. These relationships often lead to licensing agreements, which grant the commercial entities rights to develop those technologies.
- Draft and negotiate terms of all major and minor agreements with companies, including option, license, and equity-based agreements
- Provide guidance and planning on developing technologies concerning commercial success
- Lead business development and/or special project activities, such as determining patent strategies for new inventions
- Determine and implement patent strategy for new invention disclosures including reviewing patent applications prosecution documents and assisting in making decisions with legal counsel
- Engage in activities that promote or develop and enhance the formation of startup companies using UAB technologies
- Serve as a liaison between the IPO (Intellectual Property Office) and other units within the University
- Performs other duties as assigned
Salary Range: %2485,600 - %24111,280
Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or a related field and seven (7) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement
