About the Job
The Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting technological infrastructure that enables the success of OPC, GTC, and GSOC. This includes designing, deploying, and managing Windows and Linux desktop and server environments as well as architecting and implementing cloud-based solutions through AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft 365. The role ensures system scalability, reliability, and security.
The Systems Engineer manages and optimizes both physical and virtual servers as well as core cloud services and workstation infrastructure, monitors system performance, and troubleshoots issues. They implement automation and configuration management and plan and perform system upgrades.
In terms of security and compliance, the Systems Engineer ensures that systems are secure and compliant with industry standards and regulations. They manage system security configurations, participate in regular security audits, and promptly address findings from security assessments.
The role involves close collaboration across various technical and business teams, providing technical support and expertise. The Systems Engineer documents system configurations, department processes, and prepares reports and metrics on system performance. This opportunity offers a diverse range of tasks and the potential for continuous learning and growth. Position may specialize in a certain subset of technology based on business needs.

Job Duties
- System Design and Implementation: Design, deploy, and manage Windows and Linux desktop and server environments and related storage infrastructure. Architect and implement cloud-based solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft 365) to support business needs. Ensure system scalability, reliability, and security.
- Infrastructure Management: Maintain and optimize physical and virtual servers and workstation infrastructure. Monitor system performance, conduct regular system audits, and troubleshoot issues. Implement automation and configuration management. Plan and perform system upgrades. Perform routine systems maintenance activities like backup/recovery, patching, file management.
- Security and Compliance: Ensure systems are secure and compliant with industry standards and regulations. Implement and manage system security measures and configurations. Participate in regular security audits, conduct regular security assessments and promptly address findings from audits and assessments.
- Collaboration and Support: Work closely with development, operations, and support teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of systems. Provide direct technical support for planning, coordination, programming, and implementation of releases, upgrades, and changes. Provide Tier 3 support for complex issues and escalations.
- Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures. Prepare reports on system performance, incidents, and maintenance activities. Develop, maintain, and follow department policies and procedures. Use ITSM toolset for documentation and support of ITIL practices such as incident management, change management, problem management, asset management, service requests, etc.
- Engage in continuous improvement activities to enhance system performance and reliability. Participate in industry conferences and workshops to stay current with emerging technologies and best practices. Provide technical support, expertise, and advise across the IT function.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Systems Engineer I
Experience: Entry-level position. Existing exposure to Windows and Linux desktop and/or server environments, cloud-based solutions, and general system support is expected.
Equivalent Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience may also be considered.
Responsibility: Assists in design, deployment, and management of Windows and Linux desktop and/or server environments, cloud environments, and storage infrastructure. Participates in system assessment and troubleshooting with some supervision.
Systems Engineer II
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in managing technology infrastructure environments, cloud-based solutions, conducting system assessments, and troubleshooting.
Equivalent Experience: Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience may also be considered.
Responsibility: Independently manages desktop and/or server environments and assists in the architecture and implementation of cloud-based solutions. Begins to take on more complex system assessment and troubleshooting tasks.
Systems Engineer III
Experience: Minimum of 4 years in designing and managing technology infrastructure environments, cloud-based solutions, conducting system assessments, and troubleshooting.
Equivalent Experience: Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience may also be considered.
Responsibility: Independently manages desktop and/or server environments, implements cloud-based solutions, and conducts system assessments and troubleshooting. Begins to lead small projects and works closely with other teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of systems.

Specialized Skills (e.g., typing, computers, software, tools and equipment uses, etc.):
- Technical Expertise:
- Extensive experience with Active Directory, Windows Server (2016, 2019, 2022) and Linux distributions (Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat).
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Windows desktop OS and related desktop management systems including MS Intune, WSUS, etc.
- Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and associated services including Microsoft 365.
- Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, Proxmox, etc.).
- Experience with Microsoft Exchange Online and On-premises
- Tools and Technologies:
- Experience with configuration management tools and patch management tools.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Proficient in scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Experience with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, Ivanti ITSM, etc.
- Security:
- In-depth understanding of network and system security best practices.
- Experience with security tools and technologies (firewalls, IDS/IPS, EDR).
- Other:
- Experience with DevOps practices and tools (CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins).
- Knowledge of ITIL processes and best practices.
- Experience in managing databases (SQL, NoSQL) and storage solutions.
