SUMMARY
Agile Defense has an opening for an experienced Systems Engineer Lead to oversee all aspects of IT Systems Engineering and network operations for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), located in Arlington, Va. The candidate will coordinate and perform all tasks required to maintain, monitor, secure, and update the IT systems and networks.
Specifically, the candidate will lead a team of engineers and system administrators to provide Windows System Administration, Network administration, Active Directory Administration, VMWare management, VoIP management, and vulnerability management support. The candidate must have hands-on experience, as well as good leadership/mentorship skills to perform tasks as needed, and/or lead others to support the AFOSR IT networks and systems.
The candidate will report to the AFOSR Program Manager on site, and work with AFOSR CITO (Chief Information Technology Officer) to advise and execute on IT-related priorities, and to maintain the performance and reliability of the IT networks and systems.
DUTIES
- Manage the daily operations and maintenance of the IT networks and Windows servers.
- Coordinate and/or perform the installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
- Monitor installed IT systems and infrastructure to ensure the highest level of IT systems and network availability and stability.
- Maintain and update IT operation and support policies and practices.
- Provide written monthly and ad-hoc status updates on IT engineering projects and initiatives.
- Coordinate the management of Cisco switches/routers, and Cisco Unified Call Manager Phone system (CUCM) with 3rd party Cisco contractor.
- Manage the VMware vSphere/vCenter/ESXi infrastructure; to include patching, upgrades and troubleshooting VMware related issues.
- Advise the CITO and Program Manager on recommended practices, tools, hardware, and services to maintain and improve system and network performance and reliability.
Responsible for maintaining updated support documentation for AFOSR networks and servers.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and 10+ years of experience or a Master's degree and 6+ years of experience.
- VMware Certified Professional certificate (Must obtain within 6 months of Hire).
- Active CompTIA Security +CE.
Preferred
- Microsoft Certified Professional Certificate 2019 or higher (Must obtain within 6 months of Hire).
- Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) / CCT Routing and Switching Certification or equivalent.
Other
- Complete Cisco Identity Services Engine training within 8 months of hire.
BACKGROUND NEEDED and YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
- Active Top Secret Clearance.
- Candidates must be a US citizen and possess a current DoD Top Secret clearance.
- 10+ years of experience performing the duties of IT Network Administrator /Windows Systems Administrator using Microsoft Windows 2012/2019 server.
- Experience with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG)s.
- Experience in VMWare 7.0.
- Experience in managing services for Microsoft related technologies: Windows Active Directory, File Server and Print Server.
- Knowledge of port management at the network level, physical and virtual: WAN/LAN connectivity, routers, and security.
PREFERRED
- Experience in RSA Authentication management.
- Experience in supporting remote access solutions: VPN, Terminal Services.
- Experience with Cisco switches/routers, Cisco Unified Call Manager, Cisco ISE, and EMC SAN
- Project Management Training and Experience.
NON-TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Strong interpersonal working skills with both customers and team members are required.
- Ability to work independently and to lead a team.

Working Conditions
- Work is primarily on-site, currently providing a hybrid working environment (part time onsite, part time remote).
- Possible off-hours work to support releases and outages.
- General office environment with a fast-pace ops tempo.
- Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time.
- The working environment is generally favorable.
- Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
