Systems Engineer - Rivian and VW Group Technology

Role Summary:

The RiDE team is seeking a highly skilled and versatile engineer with a strong foundation in software development and system design to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining diagnostic tools, both embedded in the vehicle and external. You will partner with existing firmware, cloud connectivity and information technology teams as well as users and other stakeholders through all stages of program development, from concept to delivery.

Responsibilities:

• Proficiency in Golang
• Working knowledge of how to design code for testability and write unit tests, how to write for documentation generators
• How to approach all–of–codebase problems such as observability (structured logging, tracing and/or metrics), monitoring, and configuration
• Experience with optimization of code/applications, including triage, characterization and focused performance testing
• Code maintenance skills: how to clean up code by refactoring complex or large modules/functions into more manageable ones, resolving issues relating to dependencies, etc.
• Familiarity with finding existing open source modules/packages/crates, considering and evaluating their quality, suitability and general fit for purpose
• Your experience covers at least one domain area in depth out of client/server networking (eg sockets programming), database design (SQL or NoSQL), messaging (eg MQTT, NATS, Kafka), cloud engineering (AWS, Kubernetes, etc), Microservices/PaaS (eg REST APIs, gRPC)
• If you don't meet the letter of this section, but you have experience which you can make a case is equivalent, be it in other languages or depth in one area making up for others, we'd love to talk to you.
• Strong core analytical, critical thinking, debugging, problem-solving and software design skills
  Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a cross-functional team environment, and how to thoughtfully and professionally disagree while listening to counter–positions, with the ideal being arriving at the best solutions, or the most pragmatic for the situation.
• Solid understanding of fault tolerance and reliability.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in Rust and python
• Experience in edge computing systems, especially in resource-constrained environments such as automotive platforms.
• Experience developing micro service architectures.
• Familiarity with IoT protocols such as HTTP, GRPC and MQTT.
• Familiarity with automotive diagnostics, protocols and formats(e.g., OBD-II, CAN bus, vehicle telematics, UDS, DoIP, ODX, OTX).

Pay Disclosure:

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Palo Alto, California Based Applicants: $116,300.00 - $145,400.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

 

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Irvine, California Based Applicants: $107,000.00 - $133,700.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
