Position Summary:
The System Administrator will play a key role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of monitoring systems for CallTower’s customer-facing services. This role will manage and improve the monitoring and alerting systems for our infrastructure and collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure the high availability, performance, and security of critical systems. This role will also contribute to the support and optimization of network, server, and voice platform infrastructure across multiple datacenters. The System Administrator will work with cross-functional teams, including network and system engineers, to refine monitoring solutions, identify system performance bottlenecks, and troubleshoot issues before any impact to customers. This includes an active role in setting up proactive alerting, capacity planning, and reporting, ensuring that potential issues are identified and resolved swiftly.
Position Responsibilities:
· Design, maintain and improve monitoring and alerting frameworks to ensure the health, availability, and performance of CallTower’s infrastructure.
· Refine alerting strategies to detect anomalies, system failures, and potential issues before they affect customers, reducing downtime and improving overall service reliability.
· Analyze historical performance trends and capacity utilization across systems to forecast potential bottlenecks.
· Provide regular reports and actionable insights to leadership regarding resource utilization, capacity trends, and potential risks.
· Manage and administer SolarWinds and other key monitoring platforms, ensuring tools are properly configured, maintained, and optimized.
· Ensure that monitoring tools are integrated seamlessly with incident management systems, providing real-time notifications and facilitating a quick response to service disruptions or system anomalies.
· Collaborate with network engineers, software engineers, and infrastructure teams to design, deploy, and maintain advanced monitoring solutions.
· Maintain up-to-date documentation for all monitoring systems, configurations, and processes.
Essential Skills and Experience:
· Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or equivalent experience ·
4+ years progressive systems administration experience
· Significant experience with SolarWinds or Nagios
· Significant experience with SNMP-based monitoring and alerting
· Significant understanding of monitoring tools and techniques
· Working knowledge of Linux, MySQL, and XML
· Working knowledge of the Microsoft System Center Operations Manager
· Familiarity with PowerShell, Bash, scripting and basic automation
· Experience in a 24x7 customer-facing hosted services environment
· Understanding of ITIL-like attitudes toward managing a data center (change/incident/problem management, documentation)
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Very strong and proven capability to take ownership of assigned systems.
