The Linux System Administrator will play a pivotal role in supporting the operations of the Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT) located at our client, a private University in Southern California. ICT is a renowned research institute known for its work on military and Department of Defense (DOD) sponsored projects. This role demands in-depth knowledge of the institute's specific requirements and a strong grasp of Linux system administration.
U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance.

Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, upgrade, and provide support for the Institute's back-end systems and networks.
- Diagnose and resolve problems quickly, should be able to communicate technical concerns and solutions to many different people with varying degrees of technical knowledge as well as work with individuals in all departments to help solve their technical issues.
- Provide analytical and technical expertise on system integration, installation, replacement and upgrades of servers and operating systems.
- Lead IT projects from inception to completion with little supervision.
- Serve as a mentor to junior system administrators and there will be infrequent Helpdesk tasks as needed.
- Develop and maintains appropriate system documentation. Formulates standards for system management.
- Work with vendors to maintain appropriate level of support.
- Participate in development and documentation of internal operating policies and procedures.
- Assist in development and dissemination of policies and procedures for users. Provides interpretation as required.
Education and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering
- 5+ years experience and advanced knowledge of Linux system administration
- Cloud services, Azure, AWS, GCP, MS Intune
- Enterprise storage management experience (NetApp, EMC, Tegile)
- Compliance and Governance understanding (PCI, PII, HIPAA, DFARS)
- Strong awareness of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP and distributed networks.
- Familiarity with Security Assessment Tools and Security Frameworks (NIST, ISO, NMAP, Nessus, Rapid7)
- VMware ESX administration experience
- Backup system architectures and management – Commvault experience preferable
- Working experience supporting LAMP, confluence, jira, trac, SVN, GIT, JAMF, Zendesk
- Experience in architecting and supporting HPC system - SLURM
- U.S. citizenship is required
- Covid-19 vaccination and eligible booster shots are required
- A security clearance
