SUMMARY:
The YWCA Metropolitan Chicago is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. The Clinical Program – Chicago, part of the YWCA’s Sexual Violence Support Services (SVSS), provides crisis counseling, as well as short- and long-term individual, family, and group therapy, to survivors of sexual abuse and their non-offending significant others, ages 3+. The program operates across four locations in Chicago, offering all services confidentially and free of charge. We strive to maintain a culturally and ethnically diverse professional staff to best meet clients’ needs. Ideal candidates should be aware of cultural considerations and enjoy working with children and families. Counseling services are available in both English and Spanish.
COLLABORATES WITH:
SVSS Counseling Team, Chicago
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage a caseload of 6-8 individual cases (dependent on waitlist) and co-facilitate 1-2 therapy groups and/or client workshops.
- Provide telephone crisis intervention, information, referrals, and case management support.
- Support Clinical Program Specialist with intakes and maintaining the waitlist.
- Input clinical data into program databases while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines.
- Participate in monthly program and administrative team meetings.
- Participate in case consultations and present at least one case during the internship.
NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop trauma-informed and client-centered clinical skills.
- Learn relational/psychodynamic and trauma therapy approaches and other treatment models
- Access to YWCA’s clinical training library and reading materials.
- Opportunity to participate in other clinical and learning experiences (i.e., Chicago Rape Crisis Hotline, Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities) [as available].
- Participate in and/or create projects based on agency needs and intern’s interest.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Entering final year of Master’s-level Counseling, Social Work, Art Therapy programs (non-final-year students with trauma-related work experience may also apply)
- Attend the 40-hour Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention training provided by the agency at no cost prior to the internship.
- Commitment to internship from mid-August to end of June.
- Commitment to a minimum of 20 hours/week with two weekday evenings; Fridays and possibly Saturdays.
- Participate in weekly 1.5-hour individual reflective supervision conducted by a licensed clinician and monthly 1-hour intern group supervision.
- Willingness to travel to no more than two sites (internship typically based at our Medical District office at 1340 S. Damen Avenue).
- Ability to work independently when appropriate, with ongoing supervision.
- Bilingual Spanish speaking interns are highly encouraged to apply
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Entering final year of Master’s-level Counseling, Social Work, Art Therapy programs (Non-final-year students with strong trauma-related work experiences may apply)
CERTIFICATION(s) REQUIRED:
Intern is required to complete a 40-hour Sexual Crisis Intervention training prior to, or at the beginning of, their internship.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Spanish fluent candidates encouraged to apply.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Hybrid format of providing in-person and telehealth counseling services. Interns will work both independently under the supervision of a licensed clinical therapist.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Choose 2-3 days to work a minimum of 20 hours/week with two weekday evenings until 8pm or 1 weekday evening and a Saturday; Must be available on First Fridays from 9 am to 2pm to attend Team Meeting and Group Intern Supervision.
