The Sustaining Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the ongoing support and improvement of existing products, resolving technical issues, and driving product quality and reliability. This position is essential for maintaining customer satisfaction, reducing downtime, and maximizing the lifespan of products.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead a team of sustaining engineers to address technical issues and product improvements
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritize and resolve product issues
Develop and implement strategies for product quality assurance and reliability
Manage and monitor the resolution of customer-reported issues
Identify opportunities for product enhancements and lead the implementation process
Oversee the analysis of field data to identify trends and drive product improvements
Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to product reliability and customer satisfaction
Provide technical expertise and guidance to the engineering team
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for product issues
Support new product introduction and transfer to manufacturing
Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the sustaining engineering team
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
Manage departmental budget and resources effectively
Contribute to long-term product roadmap planning
Collaborate with the sales and support teams to address customer needs
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred
Proven experience in a sustaining engineering or related technical leadership role
Demonstrated experience in leading and developing engineering teams
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Expertise in project management and process improvement methodologies
In-depth knowledge of quality assurance principles and practices
Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
Understanding of product lifecycle management and product development processes
Experience working in a regulated industry, such as medical devices or aerospace, is a plus
Strong leadership and decision-making abilities
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Proficiency in relevant software tools and systems
