Summary:The Survey Technician will focus on execution of technical tasks necessary to create survey deliverables and provide in depth knowledge to project teams for survey solutions. This role will work directly with the PLS, survey team, project managers, engineering, and field crews to achieve project goals. The Survey Technician will work with a variety of software and data to include conventional survey and GPS. The Survey Technician will be given an opportunity to work with point clouds from terrestrial and aerial LIDAR and photogrammetry datasets, to determine if they posses the aptitude to work with these data sets.
Expected results in the role:
- Complete drafting and data processing assignments within the time budgeted to do so.
- Create complete and comprehensive Survey Field Packs.
- Adhere to Ascent layering conventions and drafting practices.
- Ask questions to increase personal understanding and grow in your role.
- Be a contributing member of the team, ready to help whenever necessary to meet deadlines.
- Perform drafting assignments with minimal errors.
- Create drafting templates for projects.
- Perform QA/QC on work of junior team members.
- Communicate with field crews and create calcs on demand to facilitate field work.
Essential Duties:
- Process field data with Trimble Business Center.
- Create Survey Field Packs.
- Perform basic research required to compile said Field Packs.
- Draft Survey Plats and compose Legal Descriptions for PLS Review.
- Draft topographic survey deliverables.
- Draft ALTA deliverables.
- Correctly read and draft previously recorded documents.
- Draft Alignment Sheets.
- Assist Project Managers (PM’s), Senior Project Managers (Sr. PM’s), and Professional Land Surveyors (PLS) with various tasks, as necessary.
- Attend screen shares and client calls with PM’s, Sr. PM’s, and PLS’ to aide in planning and design.
Competencies:
- Strong Civil 3D Skills
- Solid Trimble Business Center Knowledge
- Microsoft Office Suite Familiarity
- Thorough understanding of Coordinate Systems
- Public Land Survey System
- Aliquot Parts
- Metes and Bounds Descriptions
- GIS Familiarity is a plus
- Motivated Problem Solver
Required Education and Experience:
- 1 to 3 years survey/drafting experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Assist teammates with questions and problems as necessary.
- Assist supervisors with coordinating large scale work.
Other Need-to-know items:
- Night and Weekend work may be necessary to meet client deadlines.
- You will be exposed to different workflows, processes, and data sets to determine your aptitude for working with various products.
