We are seeking a passionate Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery team - if you are committed to the highest standards of veterinary care, we would love to hear from you!
About the role: As a Surgical Veterinary Assistant, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Assisting with patient examinations: prepping exam room, setting up equipment, taking patient history, recording vitals, performing diagnostic procedures, restraining animals, providing take-home instructions, and scheduling follow-up appointments.
- Preparing and reviewing surgical estimates with clients accurately.
- Assisting with surgical procedures: prepping patients, performing blood draws, IV catheter placements, setting up the surgery suite, sterilizing surgical packs, and ensuring the surgery suite is clean and well-stocked.
- Communicating with clients and referring veterinarians (RDVMs), including appointment reminders, follow-up calls, prescription call-ins, managing discharges, and providing post-op care instructions.
- Accurately recording nursing care information, healthcare team communications, and clinical data in the hospital’s software system. Review doctor notes and treatment histories for accuracy.
- Entering all charges related to surgery services accurately and prepare take-home medications (TGH).
- Managing surgery inventory, track supplies, reorder as needed, and ensure exam and surgery rooms are well-stocked.
- $16 - $20 pending skill assessment leveling
- Tuesday-Friday, specific hours TBD.

- You are a confident, skilled, and experienced Veterinary Assistant dedicated to outstanding client service and excellent patient care.
- Prior experience in prepping patients for surgery, setting up surgery suites, and sterilizing surgical packs. Familiarity with surgical instruments required.
- Proficiency in patient anesthesia and recovery, or willingness to learn, including drug dosage preparation, equipment use, patient care, and all aspects of induction, monitoring, and recovery of anesthetized patients. Experience with epidurals and surgical ventilator use is a plus!
