About the Opportunity
Our client, a community-focused hospital in Nebraska, is seeking a dynamic Nutrition/Environmental Services Director to lead a critical department overseeing Nutrition Services, Housekeeping, and Laundry. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a small-town setting while managing approximately 75 FTEs, including four managers. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Support and Ancillary Services, this position requires a leader who can ensure operational excellence while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and growth.
Position Summary
The Nutrition/Environmental Services Director will provide oversight and strategic direction for the department, ensuring high-quality services that promote safety, efficiency, and patient satisfaction. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, financial management skills, and expertise in Nutrition Services (with Environmental Services knowledge preferred). This role requires a proactive leader skilled in process improvement, conflict resolution, and resource optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead day-to-day operations of Nutrition Services, Housekeeping, and Laundry departments.
Oversee departmental budgets, financial planning, and cost control measures.
Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and performance improvement initiatives.
Monitor and improve patient and customer satisfaction metrics, including HCAHPS scores.
Direct nutrition therapy services in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Plan menus for patients and cafeteria, ensuring cost control and quality.
Oversee cleaning and sanitation processes to maintain high safety standards.
Mentor and develop department managers and staff, fostering professional growth.
Collaborate with hospital leadership and multidisciplinary teams on strategic planning and improvement goals.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory guidelines and organizational policies.
Support recruitment, training, and retention of staff in today’s evolving workforce environment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree Required (in Nutrition, Food Services, or a related field preferred).
3-5 years of experience in a Director-level leadership role.
Strong background in Nutrition Services is highly preferred; Environmental Services experience a plus.
Registered Dietitian (RD) certification preferred but not required.
Demonstrated experience managing large teams and leading multi-departmental operations.
Proven success in financial management, performance improvement initiatives, and fostering a positive team culture.
