The Surgical Controller is responsible for maintaining the master schedule for all surgical procedures occurring at the Vancouver Clinic Surgery Center at Salmon Creek. Responsible for properly arranging, changing, and/or cancelling procedures. Ensures procedures are scheduled with appropriate staff and equipment to fulfill patient and surgeon needs. Monitors block utilization and advocates for adjustments in provider block time. Manages master block template. Acts as point person for the Operating Room schedule for surgeons, anesthesiologists, schedulers, and other clinicians.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensures procedures are scheduled with appropriate resources to fulfill patient and surgeon needs. Reviews scheduled surgical cases for equipment conflicts, supply needs, surgeon schedule conflicts, special requests, and other details that are required for the surgical procedures.
- Ensures cases are scheduled in proper priority (ie. pediatric patients, diabetic patients, local-only anesthesia cases, etc.)
- Monitors master schedule to ensure all procedures are authorized by insurance.
- Coordinates resources required for use of C-Arm, including coordination with Imaging for use of Radiologic Technologist.
- Monitors block utilization and advocates for adjustments in provider or department block time in effort to reach 80% OR utilization.
- Acts as primary point person for the Operating Room schedule.
- Communicates frequently with Surgeons, Surgery Coordinators, Surgery Center Leadership, and other clinicians.
- Insure the highest level of accuracy and detail in all work surrounding master schedule.
- Documents appropriate information in the electronic medical record. Entries are date and time specific, follow medical record standards, and include accepted medical abbreviations and terminology.
- Maintains records related to surgeries, authorizations, and special needs of patients.
- Ability to problem-solve and provide excellent follow through.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent customer service and telephone skills required.
- Must be flexible, able to efficiently multi-task, and prioritize work independently.
- Must possess a positive attitude and work well in a team environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Two Years experience in an ambulatory surgical environment required.
- Experience with EPIC EHR preferred.
Pay Range:
$21.77 - $30.47
