Job Description:
Responsible for managing all areas of the surface enhancement business. This includes managing operations, development activities, customer interaction, and personnel with detailed focus on schedules, quality standards, and cost objectives. Lead and manage resources to achieve safety, customer service, productivity, and quality in support of company goals.
Job Function:
This position will report to the General Manager. The Surface Enhancement Manager is accountable for all aspects of operational execution, including developing the manufacturing plans and establishing procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations and ensuring that products conform to established customer and company quality standards. Provides day to day, hands-on mentoring and development of direct reports. Responsible for safety, security, continuous improvement initiatives, and achievement of production targets. Establish and execute training and development programs that support company strategic objectives, improved productivity, as well as employee skill set. Resolves daily production constraints. Actively pursues cost reduction through the use of lean manufacturing methods.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to achieve annual safety, quality, and manufacturing goals.
- Coach and develop both direct and, as appropriate, indirect reports through ongoing, example-based performance feedback, annual performance reviews and the provision of training and development opportunities. Ensure that performance issues are managed in a consistent and timely manner.
- Communicate on a consistent basis with managers/supervisors and subordinate staff to inform personnel of decisions, policies, and all matters that affect their performance, behavior, and results.
- Manage clear communication with the customer on items as needed, while coaching their direct team to do the same.
- Coordinate training and development programs that support and improve labor productivity and lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Develop and evaluate staff. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Consult with Human Resources as appropriate.
- Identify, recommend and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap. Monitor scrap and rework data.
- Direct and coordinate various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (i.e.: training, safety, 5S, cost reduction, worker engagement, security, etc.).
- Work effectively and relate well with others.
- Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships.
- Keep current on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
- Interface with customers on new product qualifications, concerns, and new product introductions.
- Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.
Requirements:
- BA/BS in industrial, mechanical, aerospace engineering or business administration, or a 4-year technical degree in related discipline- documentation required.
- 10+ years’ experience in manufacturing management, preferably in a process-oriented operation involving aviation or IGT super alloy based hot parts and rotating equipment or comparable and/or related industry.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience managing a significant segment of a manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Ability to work in fast paced team environment with a strong commitment to accountability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications and the ability to learn new software/apps as needed.
- Experience working with manufacturing-based technology, processes, and principles is preferred (Lean, ISO, etc.).
- Excellent communicator and facilitator.
- All applicants must meet the ITAR definition of a US Person(s)- documentation required.
- MTI is a safety sensitive manufacturer. As such, successful results of pre-employment drug testing will be required.
Preferable Experience:
- Experience as a production coordinator, planner and scheduler.
- Demonstrated track record of leading and developing teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Broad experience demonstrating impacts of lean and six-sigma methods.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, move throughout the facility, and communicate. Work in office environment and use of computer (typical 2-button scroll mouse and keyboard - 75% of the work day). There will be occasions where working in the shop will be required in order to accomplish tasks. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
