Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS)

+ Supervises day to day operations of assigned Rehab Therapy staff and students. + Represents the department in interdepartmental projects. + Participates in direct and consultative patient care. + Coordinates quality assurance and quality improvement activities. + Performs routine and specialized procedures relating to therapy techniques. + Maintains a high level of proficiency in the technical skills required for managing patient care. + Communicates regularly with members of the patient care team, the patient, family members and others involved with the patient's care. + Participates in program design committees to ensure that the service commitments are in keeping with resource capability, state of the art clinical practices and fiscal efficiency. + Responds to and/or appropriately directs consumer problems. + Provides input to departmental short and long term goals and objectives. + Reviews and revises patient care and treatment procedures and policies on an on-going basis. + Meets with staff members to discuss progress and to develop future courses of action. + Administers and communicates policies, procedures and related forms in accordance with state, federal, and organizational guidelines. + Participates in staff management and employee performance. + Interviews applicants and makes recommendations for hiring staff. + Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, orients and trains employees, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills. + Completes performance evaluations. + Takes appropriate corrective action. + Monitors workflow. + Guides monitoring and evaluating quality improvement and productivity activities to meet the regulatory and legal standards governing rehabilitation services. + Monitors and re-directs activities, as necessary, to maintain acceptable levels of productivity. + Represents Rehab Therapy in hospital wide program design and other appropriate committees to ensure that the service commitments are in keeping with resource capability, state of the art clinical practice and fiscal efficiency. + Communicates policy and procedure changes to all appropriate departments within the organization and community. + Represents the Director of Rehab Therapy/CRM as needed in hospital wide meetings. + Resolves complaints grievances and other issues affecting operations. + Develops and maintains formal training and orientation programs for staff to maintain discipline specific competencies. + Promotes continuing education for staff and provides opportunities for professional development. + Serves as a resource to medical staff, students, other allied health professionals and support staff concerning the operations of Rehab Therapy. + Assists in interpreting the applicable policies. + Evaluates staff educational needs based on clinical populations and situations. + Maintains Rehab Therapy records pertaining to continuing education, personnel, charting, financial operations and quality improvement. + Monitors the adherence to documentation standards. + Assists in preparing and monitoring the Rehab Therapy budget to ensure compliance with fiscal constraints. + Prioritizes and projects current and future program needs; develops proposed time line for budgetary consideration. + Assists with inventory control and identifies the need for purchasing supplies and equipment to ensure the availability of commonly used materials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Graduate from an accredited program for physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech-language pathology. + Current licensure as a Speech Pathologist, Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist in the State of Georgia. + Five years of clinical experience required including two years in a management/supervisory role preferred. + Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
