The Supervisor of Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing all pharmacy operations, medication storage and preparation in the organization.
Responsibilities:A day in the life of a Supervisor, Pharmacy at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
1. Assists the Director of Pharmacy with management of the daily operations of the department, and keeps the Director of Pharmacy apprised of any significant issues.
2. Assists the Director of Pharmacy with ensuring that Pharmacy services are optimal and meet patient and provider needs.
3. Assists the Director of Pharmacy with meeting all regulatory, accreditation and certification requirements.
4. Assists the Director of Pharmacy, department buyer and Systems/Purchasing Manager with maintaining control and security of medication products utilized within the organization.
5. Coordinates the activities of staff to ensure appropriate response time.
6. Assists the Director of Pharmacy with policy and procedure development, implementation, review and revision.
7. Responsible for communicating medication supply issues to the Systems/Purchasing Manager And the Director of Pharmacy
8. Oversees the scheduling of the Pharmacy staff.
9. Responsible for communicating identified staff concerns to the Director of Pharmacy
10. Works with the Director of Pharmacy and other managers to help coordinate the training of staff and use of technology within the department.
11. Complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes and standards of the organization.
12. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
13. Responsible for the review and verification of all medication prior to dispensing from the pharmacy department. This review includes, but is not limited to, allergies, polypharmacy, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, and clinical appropriateness. Appropriate communication with the provider will occur if necessary.
14. Responsible for the oversight of dispensing, chain of custody, and accountability of controlled dangerous substances.
15. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center, Organizational, Managerial Competencies.
16. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
17. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
2. Graduate of an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy.
3. 2 years of hospital pharmacist experience.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
5. Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
2. Master's degree or a Pharm.D degree.
