The Inventory Supervisor is responsible for guiding day to day activities of shipping/receiving and material handlers at Milwaukee’s West Bend plant. In conjunction with other Supervisors and Managers, this position builds the culture and maintains the teams that will achieve the plant’s productivity, quality, and safety goals.
This leadership role’s primary function is to enhance daily performance through direct supervision of work methods. It ensures proper staffing, equipment, and processes are in place and being followed for each function. It also supports and coaches the inventory control teams throughout the day, championing Milwaukee’s culture in all activities, interactions, and relationships.
Critically, this role will be integral to continuing the growth and progression of not only the team but the plant. With West Bend’s potential to expand rapidly, inventory control must keep pace. Experience with team creation and leadership in a high-growth environment is strongly desired.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervision / Leadership:
+ Lead and coordinate teams in warehouse, inventory, and material handling areas to meet production goals as well as accuracy, safety, cost, inventory, and team objectives.
+ In conjunction with counterparts in the plant and at sister plants, as well as supporting organizations, create and execute inventory control methods, policies, and procedures obsessed with accuracy, timeliness, and repeatability. Spread best practices to other plants and adopt best practices from other locations.
+ Lead structured cycle counts, ensuring timely and accurate completion as well as full followup on variance approvals and reporting.
+ Ensure all inbound and outbound product is processed accurately and on time, and placed in appropriate locations, and that systems and record keeping are accurate and timely.
+ Perform all related supervisory and human resource functions such as work assignments, attendance documentations, incident reports, performance evaluations, and counseling.
+ Orientate, train & develop, motivate, counsel and assist team members in work instructions, inventory control standards, and the balanced flow of work and problem resolution.
+ Assist in hiring and onboarding – assessing talent, interviewing, onboarding, and assimilating new employees as they transition from training onto the plant floor.
+ Ensure all equipment, tools, and safety equipment are operable and being used as designed, and work instructions are being followed. Urgently correct or escalate as required, including engagement with operations, engineering, quality, training, leadership, etc.
+ Assign work and special projects to team members to develop work experience and flexibility.
+ Monitor and audit daily inventory control reports. Resolve potential errors.
+ Monitor and review budget and forecast and factor into daily staffing and production decisions.
+ Requisition resources (supplies, tools, etc.) and expedite as required.
+ Act as backup for all team members, including department Manager.
+ Facilitate team meetings and communications.
+ Contribute to team success by performing related tasks as needed to assist in overall department goals.
Safety / 5S:
+ Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and visually appealing plant.
+ Maintain a safe and secure warehouse. Ensure that appropriate procedures are in place and followed.
+ Build self-sustaining safety and 5S cultures. Ensure team members are following all safety and 5S standards.
+ Lead, support, and encourage participation in safety, 5S, and culture teams, and celebrate their roles in the plant.
+ Audit near misses, safety incidents, and related processes to determine root causes and implement necessary corrections.
Continuous Improvement:
+ Monitor team data feeds, reports, metrics, and KPIs to ensure daily performance as well as identify gaps and opportunities.
+ Work with production teams, engineering, and other supporting functions to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
+ Lead and support kaizen, root cause, value stream mapping, process audits, and other continuous improvement activities. Collaborate with other groups where those activities intersect with your teams.
Education and Experience Requirements:
+ Undergraduate degree in Operations or Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or equivalent education/work experience.
+ APICS CPIM, CSCP or similar inventory control management certification is highly preferred.
+ At least 5 years experience in an inventory control/ warehouse environment.
+ Experience in manufacturing is highly preferred.
+ Minimum of 2 years leading teams in a production environment.
+ Ability to interpret technical data accurately.
+ Demonstrated success leading fast paced, detail oriented, high mix environments.
+ Experience with enterprise-grade ERP and production control software and systems.
+ Expertise with Oracle is highly desired.
+ Demonstrated experience with and use of production metrics, KPI’s and other reports.
+ Competency with Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Work, Outlook, Powerpoint, and Teams
+ Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.
Travel:
+ Initial travel to Milwaukee’s other manufacturing facilities in Mukwonago and Sun Prairie, Wisconsin may be required for orientation and training.
