Overview
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Supervising Clinician is responsible for communicating, implementing and monitoring the operational tactics which are geared toward achieving the strategic objectives of OSF, through direct leadership and oversight of physicians and/or advanced practice providers (APPs). Through strong working relationships with physicians, APPs, administrative leaders, and clinical and support staff, ensures the provision of quality care delivery and standardized efficient operations in accordance with OSF and regulatory requirements in the assigned work environment. Serves as a role model of the OSF Leader Competencies. Positively supports and conveys the OSF vision and Key Results and demonstrates the OSF Leader Competencies on a continual basis. Leads change and implementation efforts within the assigned work environment. Supports a culture of continuous improvement and conveys the need for change to Mission Partners, so they can see the vision and reason for change.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Supervises physicians and/or advanced practice providers in the assigned work environment. Provides feedback, mentorship, formal evaluation, and positive discipline as needed to correct deficiencies, as well as recognition of desired performance.
- Monitors the operational effectiveness of assigned team. Reviews quality, safety, patient experience, Mission Partner experience, and financial metrics and develops improvement plans based on performance gaps.
- Manages patient access and/or patient throughput in adherence to standards and policies set by OSFHealthCare. Communicates the access and throughput plan/goals and current performance to team. Elevates barriers and ideas for solution to one-up leadership.
- Provides a superior patient experience in assigned locations. Actively reviews patient experience results and is knowledgeable of methods and tactics to achieve excellent results. Educates, coaches, and leads others in how to achieve outstanding results.
- Communicates regularly, both formally and informally, with direct reports on organizational initiatives, local performance, clinical issues, quality metrics, coding information, and the like, as well as continually recognizing outstanding achievements.
- Attends and actively participates in councils/committees as appropriate for the care setting and champions improvement initiatives that are determined by such bodies.
- Participates in provider recruiting activities and leads onboarding initiatives to efficiently and effectively facilitate new provider development. Acts as, or assigns, an effective mentor to new providers to enhance the new provider experience and promote provider retention.
- Reports all potential risk management issues to one-up leaders. Communicates and enforces accountability to policies regarding corporate compliance, coding, documentation and timely completion of records.
- Collaborates with regional or facility leadership to develop capital and operational budget forecasts for their assigned location.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Continually traversing corridors. Must occasionally remain in a stationary position, sitting or standing, for up to 4 hours. Operates office and medical equipment constantly. Frequently lifts/moves/carries objects/persons up to 35 pounds. Occasionally must position self to lower heights under 4’, stooping or squatting. Near acuity vision needed. Constant coordination of hands, fingers, feet and eyes required. Completes basic math quickly and accurately. Understands complex problems and explores alternative solutions. Organizes thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology. Constantly working with others; must converse and be understood verbally and in written form. Occasionally must work to understand and negotiate and/or integrate different viewpoints. Continual decision making based on data and observation required. The environment includes frequent emotional stress and occasional violent or assaultive customers. Hazards include exposure to blood borne pathogens, contagious diseases and chemical exposure.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Master’s degree as an Advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA)
Licenses/Certifications:
License to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the applicable state
Board certification as APRN or PA by appropriate accrediting body
Experience:
2 years of experience as an advanced practice registered nurse or physician assistant
Other skills/knowledge:
Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to successfully lead and motivate a workforce.

Licenses/Certifications:
Certification in area of specialty
Experience:
Leadership experience in an integrated delivery health system.
