About the Job
The Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division of San Mateo County Health is seeking a motivated Supervising Mental Health Clinician - Youth Services Center (YSC) to provide oversight and supervision of the Youth Services Center unit and coordinate the professional work of behavioral health professionals, Peer Community Workers, and interns within a behavioral health juvenile justice setting and community. The Supervising Mental Health Clinician will participate in program planning, administration, and evaluation. Additionally, this Supervising Mental Health Clinician will attend various leadership meetings with Probation staff and provide oversight of specialized psychiatric casework counseling and therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and families.
The current vacancy is at the Youth Services Center (YSC) located in San Mateo but may travel throughout San Mateo County to perform duties of this position. The Supervising Mental Health Clinician will offer consultation to the After-Hours clinician as required. Furthermore, there may be occasions where the Unit Supervisor will assume an After-Hours clinician shift in the event of an unavailable clinician.

In close collaboration with the Probation Department, this BHRS Unit provides services to various sub-populations of Juvenile Court wards. All programs are designed to reduce or help prevent criminal recidivism and unnecessary out-of-home placements.

The ideal candidate will possess:
- Two years of clinical and administrative supervisory experience supervising behavioral health staff
- Experience working with children/youth with serious emotional disturbance, their families, and the community
- Experience working with youth involved in the juvenile justice system
- Experience with evidence-based clinical practice modalities such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Teaching Pro-Social Skills, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, etc.
- Experience providing Trauma Informed Care
- Working with multicultural clients and staff; including ensuring cultural humility and cultural competence in the services provided
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with collaborative partners including Juvenile Probation, Correctional Health, Children and Family Services (CFS), and the County Office of Education (COE). This also includes active participation in numerous leadership meetings
- Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships
- Effectively communicating orally and in writing
- Fluency in Spanish and English is preferred
