JOB GOAL: To provide professional leadership in organizing, administering, supervising, and evaluating the effective operation of the school district
RESPONSIBLE TO: Board of Education
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must hold an appropriate Kansas administrative license
2. Masters degree required; doctoral degree preferred
3. Must have no less than ten years of successful educational experience
4. Building level administrative experience required
5. Must be willing to conduct training for district personnel
6. Computer expertise required
7. Must be willing to work 60+ hours weekly
8. Must hold a valid Kansas driver’s license
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
1. Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking
2. Repetitive motions
3. Prolonged periods of time viewing a computer screen
4. Physical exertion to manually move, pull, or push heavy objects or materials
5. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted
6. Stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling, and turning
7. Occasional work in noisy, crowded, stressful environments with numerous interruptions
8. Driving skills to and physical ability operate motor vehicles including ability to operate at night
9. Some travel required
TERMS:
1. Length of contract is 12 months
2. Salary and benefits determined annually by the Board of Education
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Support the district’s vision, mission, and values
2. Redesign plans and practices required for full implementation of the district vision
3. Make administrative decisions necessary to the proper function of the school district in a timely manner
4. Delegate authority effectively but assume final responsibility for the overall school program
5. Implement all policies and statutes as determined by various governmental agencies, the Kansas State Department of Education, and the local board of education
6. Assume responsibility for completing all forms and reports as stipulated by various regulatory agencies
7. Carry out board directives effectively and accurately
8. Act as a liaison between the school board and school personnel
9. Report to the school board about the status of instructional programs, current trends in education, and the district’s financial condition
10. Submit to the school board recommendations with supporting data on items required board action
11. Advise the board on the need for new or revised policies and ensure that all policies of the board are implemented
12. Work with school board members in planning board meeting agendas
13. Ensure implementation of all personnel policies and programs
14. Maintain current job descriptions and a district organizational chart for all personnel
15. Coordinate the recruitment, selection, assignment, and evaluation of administrative staff and supervisory personnel
16. Oversee the principals’ involvement with site councils in planning and problem solving for the schools
17. Provide leadership for planning and evaluating curriculum, instruction, and school improvement
18. Ensure the development of instructional standards and indicators that promote student achievement
19. Monitor and report on student progress relative to district approved curriculum standards as well as state and national standards
20. Use knowledge of systems to create and evaluate an effective learning environment that enhances the success of all students
21. Assist staff in implementing research-based interventions that engage all children in learning and enable all children to succeed
22. Promote instructional improvement through effective professional development programs and evaluation systems
23. Understand group dynamics and apply effective group process skills to build consensus, enhance communication, and resolve conflict
24. Commit to personal, professional growth by staying abreast of local, state, and national trends and research by attending staff development conferences and reading professional literature
25. Supervise the development and administration of the annual school district budget and report to the board on the district’s financial condition
26. Monitor construction, renovation, or acquisition/disposal of school facilities and prepare long- and short-term facility plans for the board
27. Establish and monitor procedures for the maintenance of district property
28. Establish and monitor procedures for the procurement of equipment and supplies
29. Maintain programs for the health and safety of students and employees
30. Promote and maintain school/community relations, school/business partnerships, and related public service activities
31. Communicate openly and effectively with students, community, and district personnel
32. Serve as an advocate for all children in the community and champion the needs of students under-served by educational organizations
33. Understand community and district power structures, economic factors that shape the community, and the norms and values of the community
34. Cooperate with various news media to promote district activities in a positive manner
35. Network with educational leaders at state, regional, and national levels
36. Participate actively in the political and policy-making context in the service of education
37. Use written and spoke language well
38. Develop an atmosphere of respect, trust, interest, and enthusiasm within the district
39. Demonstrate creativity and innovative thinking
40. Understand the dynamics of change, and react to change productively, positively, and effectively
41. Serve as a member of various district level committees (e.g., district leadership team, administrative cabinet, administrative council, professional development council, classified employees council, teachers/administrators/board, ad hoc committees as created by the board)
42. Perform other duties as required and/or assigned by the board of education
