About the Internship
The Aviation Department operates Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) through its Operations Division in partnership with various Line Departments. EWR serves as an international gateway for both passengers and cargo with over 420,000 flight operations and 48 million travelers per year. The Aeronautical Operations Unit’s primary focus is to ensure compliance with federal aviation regulations and to ensure employees, equipment and aircraft are operating safely and as efficiently as possible on the airfield. With ongoing construction to expand and enhance the airport, Aeronautical Operations works closely with Project Management, Construction Engineers, Federal partners, and airline stakeholders to ensure construction activities can occur concurrently and safely with normal airport operations. As a summer intern with the Aeronautical Operations Unit, you will gain an understanding of the FAA regulations an airport must operate under, the extent of stakeholder engagement to operate an airport safely and efficiently and develop critical thinking skills to coordinate scheduled maintenance/construction and address unplanned airfield conditions.
Responsibilities
+ Createan aircraft and airside parking billing and reconciliation program
+ Produce standard operating procedures and training documentation to ensure operational continuity
+ Create spreadsheets and graphs to trend safety incidents and airfield deficiencies
+ Investigate technologies to enhance training techniques and programs
+ Assist management with day-to-day operations of the facility, including airfield condition surveys, construction management, stakeholder engagement, site risk assessments, SharePoint site development, and emergency response
Minimum Qualifications
+ Enrollment at a college/university through Summer 2025 and into the Fall 2025 semester
+ Major in Aviation, Aeronautical Sciences, Aircraft Operations, or related field
+ Rising junior or senior
Desired Qualifications
+ Proficiency in Adobe, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Excel, etc
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Organizational capability, problem-solving, critical thinking mindset
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Internship Details
+ The start date will be Thursday, May 29, 2025
+ The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 22, 2025
+ This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
+ The format is expected to be in-person

Compensation & Benefits
+ The hourly rate range is $17.63 to $27.21 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
