Responsibilities:
The Actuarial Intern acquires and analyzes data along with assisting members of the actuarial team with various ongoing projects. Communicates with Actuarial team and managers.
- Assists the Actuary team with analysis for statistical rating studies, and applies advanced levels of mathematics, statistics, finance, and business to property and casualty insurance problems.
- Participates in decision-making process by identifying issues and recommending solutions.
- Downloads, manipulates, and compiles data into useable and useful format. This includes programming in both spreadsheets and/or databases.
- Participates in studies/projects on key areas of reserving, pricing, and profitability.
- Learns/Observes the business interaction with other departments.
- Becomes proficient in working with large data files using the appropriate software.
- Perform other analyses as assigned to support our business partners.
The internship will also involve a collaborative group project with interns from other Admiral departments. Other duties and tasks to be assigned in conjunction with the overall internship experience over the course of approximately 10 weeks.
Qualifications:- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a focus in in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related area.
- GPA of 3.0 and above is required.
- Rising Junior or Senior students welcome.
- Interest in enhancing classroom learning through practical career-related work experience within the industry.
- No related work experience required.
- Knowledge of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Knowledge and practical application of statistical software (i.e. SQL, R, Python) is preferred.
- Completion of 1-2 Actuarial Society examinations is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of insurance, business, finance is preferred.
- Ability to assess priorities and manage deadlines effectively.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven attention to detail, with excellent organizational skills.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently.
