Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Summer Engineering Intern for period May-August 2025 in Elkridge, Maryland. The Summer Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting Power Systems Sales personnel with vendor transactions, switchgear and panel retrofit projects, parts orders, shipping coordination and processing paperwork to facilitate sales. Other duties include producing standard and custom CAD drawings, preparing project status reports (primarily Excel based), assisting project engineers with product issues and updates, and working on application and installation challenges with customers in industrial businesses. Seeking candidates with a high School diploma or GED required. Currently enrolled as a full time student in a 4 year engineering degree program.
Requirements for the Summer Engineering Intern position include:
- Self-starter able to work with limited supervision
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude required.
- Must be able to read wiring diagrams and follow during the assembly process.
- Proficient with AutoCAD- reading, modifying and preparing drawings.
- Proficient using Adobe, Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Proficient in using the Internet to obtain information.
- Must be able to organize, control and archive documentation.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical requirements must be met for the Summer Engineering Intern job, including the ability sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Able to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 20 pounds in weight. This position may require reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing beside, onto and under a variety of heavy equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Starting Compensation Range: $24.99-$30.90 per hour
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, candidate qualifications, education, geographic location, and other relevant business factors. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance e.g. discretionary incentive programs or non-discretionary incentive plans including overtime.
