STUDENT ASSISTANT-A&G - Logistics Student - Shipping & Receiving at Southwest Research Institute

Who We Are:

The Shipping and Receiving Department is dedicated to providing excellent customer service to all staff members in the SwRI Divisions and Cost Centers. Our primary objective is to ensure same day delivery of received packages and other materials to our customers, and to ship out bound packages.

Objectives of this Role:

• Be exposed to all functions related to a Shipping and Receiving and Inventory Control operation.
• Inbound shipment process: unloading of inbound shipments from carriers; inspection of shipments; retrieval of packing slip documentation; processing and delivery of shipment to final destination; preparation of packages for shipment.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

• Work will include the following: Inbound shipment process: unloading of inbound shipments from carriers; inspection of shipments; retrieval of packing slip documentation; processing and delivery of shipment to final destination; preparation of packages for shipment.
• Communication with Shipping and Receiving internal customers as well as other related functions such as Purchasing and Accounting.
• Troubleshooting of shipment errors.
• Compilation and analysis of statistical data on inbound and outbound shipments to track number of packages, cost involved, accuracy of shipments.
• Adheres to all Safety Regulations and standards.
• Inventory Control: work in a stockroom and assist in the processing of inventory transactions.

Requirements:

• Must be pursuing an Associates in Logistics or related degree field with an accredited college or university.
• Some knowledge of shipping/receiving practices and procedures, warehousing; filing system; personal computer; word processing and database software.
• Ability to be attentive to detail and work effectively with others; compare names and numbers accurately; follow oral and written instructions.
• Communicate effectively with Institute staff via telephone or in person; ability to lift, move, sort, and store up to 50 pounds assisted.
• A valid/clear driver's license is required.
