Summary
This is an entry-level position for project management. This position is responsible for leading a design team in all aspects of project management including pursuing new project opportunities, proposal preparation, identifying project staffing needs, developing and maintaining project production workload projections, overseeing the financial performance of the project, developing and maintaining contacts with current and prospective clients, and recommending and reviewing project budget.
Essential Functions
- Identifies new markets and new clients to bring in new projects. Maintains good, continuous, positive, and helpful contact with existing clients.
- Prepares proposals and/or qualification statements to include pre-implementation estimates and prepares and presents winning presentations.
- Responsible for execution of project schedules, scope, and budgets.
- Develops and maintains project schedules and budgets. Prepares Project Planning Worksheet. Accountable for on-time and on-budget project performance.
- Determines project team makeup and assigns internal and external workloads.
- Conducts project kick-off meetings to communicate and obtain agreement on the project schedule.
- Monitors and follows up on invoicing and payments.
- Accountable for the overall design phase including conducting design review meetings, ensuring progress drawings are met, providing progress reports to Principal-in-Charge, and involving the client in design development.
- Manages our participation in the bidding phase according to individual project requirements. Coordinates Requests for Information and contractor questions.
- Manages the construction phase according to contract requirements.
- Responds promptly to requests for information or problems and maintains good communication.
- Accepts professional responsibility for projects completed under his/her direct responsibility.
- Assures quality control procedures are implemented and maintained for each of the technical areas required to complete the job.
- Provides guidance and training of technical support personnel.
- Has sole responsibility to coordinate other groups for project support.
- Assures that project correspondence and design documentation is kept orderly and complete at all times.
- Assures the project is properly closed out in accordance with the established procedures.
- Makes recommendations to senior management on personnel needs, advertisement, and hiring of staff as required.
- Provides input to the appropriate supervisor for employee evaluations.
- Ensures that personnel under his/her direction observe and comply with personnel policies and procedures.
- Issues warnings or recommends disciplinary action to senior management as required.
- Routinely communicates with Principals, Engineers, Survey managers, CADD operators, Secretaries, Field inspectors, Clients, Government Agencies, Sub-Contract Firms, and Contractors.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- 6+ years of engineering design consulting experience.
- Good supervisory skills; strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; and excellent project management knowledge and/or experience.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and technical software.
- Valid Driver's License.
Education and Experience
- BS in Civil Engineering or technical equivalent
- Professional Engineering License
