GEM Technologies, Inc. (GEM) is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our team. This position is full-time and will serve the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN.

Overview:
- Provide design output documentation to support minor facility modifications in the form of drawings, engineering instructions, data sheets, equipment specifications, equivalency evaluations, calculations, etc.
- Works with other engineering disciplines and other plant organizations to produce timely design output.
- Provide full time structural support to Projects Engineering.
- Perform field walk-downs and observations.
- Prepare design calculations and analyses.
- Create design drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate effectively with other disciplines and project teams.
- Develop project estimates and scopes of work.
- Work diligently toward milestone project schedules.
- Perform computer modelling and CAD drafting.
Clearance & Citizenship Requirement:
- To be considered, you must have an active or very recently active DOE “Q” Clearance or DoD “Top Secret” Clearance.
- Due to the nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is required.
About the Site:
The NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation’s only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium. Y-12 supports efforts to reduce nuclear proliferation risk and performs work for other government agencies (energy.gov).

COMPENSATION: GEM does not publish salary ranges on external job boards; all ranges listed are estimates made by vendors and not actual salary ranges. GEM’s offered compensation is dependent on candidates’ education, qualifications, and relevant years of experience.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school and 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.
- Experience in a NRC or DOE regulated environment is desirable.
- Requires an understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
- Familiarity with and experience in developing designs in accordance with ASME Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1), and a variety of CSA related issues relative to non-reactor nuclear facilities, natural phenomena events, structural rehabilitation, and building evaluations.
- Must also be familiar with consensus design codes.
- Must be willing to work in a production environment.
