Structural Engineer I is responsible to analyze structures, perform calculations, and prepare technical specifications based on code requirements, and ensure structural adequacy. Conduct on-site data collection and inspection. Report progress to project's lead Engineer.
REQUIREMENTS & DUTIES
- Supports discipline lead engineer on projects by performing assigned tasks.
- Interacts with project's lead structural engineer or another senior engineer and discusses alternatives design philosophies and the pros and cons of each prior to final framing layout.
- Calculates environmental loads (dead, live, wind, seismic) according to building codes, and estimates mechanical and electrical equipment loads using similar previous project examples.
- Models, analyzes, and designs 3D structures (steel or reinforced concrete) subjected to both static and dynamic loads, using structural analysis software (SAP, RAM) supplemented my manual calculations.
- Performs the structural design calculations for foundation systems, shallow (spread, combined or mat) or deep (caissons and piles) as well as earth retaining structures.
- Analyzes foundations and support structures for equipment vibrations.
- Designs material storage structures, such as Concrete silos and bunkers, and steel bins and hoppers.
- Directs designers in the development of 3D Revit models and construction drawing preparation.
- Communicates with the lead structural engineer about assigned tasks of the project to keep them informed about work status, workload, and progress of the work. Reviews work with lead or another senior engineer daily.
- Reviews vendor drawings to ensure submittals provide required information for structural design.
- Prepares construction specifications.
- Reviews fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to the design drawings and specifications.
- Assists in responding to RFI queries from fabricator shop and contractor in the field.
- Assists in field work inspections and troubleshooting, as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
- EIT in the US or applying to sit for the exam.
- Bachelor's Degree in Structural/Civil Engineering
- Familiarity with SAP2000, RAM, TEDDS or other similar structural design software.
- Working knowledge of Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
- Working knowledge of applicable design codes for industrial building structures - steel and concrete such as ASCE-7, IBC, AISC and ACI.
