The KPFF Sacramento office is located in Roseville, just 18 miles from Downtown Sacramento. We provide engineering services to both private and public sectors with projects in a vast market sector including; Commercial, Retail, Mixed-Use, Hospitality, Melti-Family Housing, Parks & Recreational Facilities, Health Care, K-12 Schools, Higher Education, Military, Transportation, and Public Agencies.
The scope of our services may include preliminary design, structural analysis, and calculations, Building Information Modeling (BIM), seismic and wind design, foundation design, retrofit and rehabilitation, construction support, value engineering, peer review, research and innovation, client and stakeholder communication, and project management.
Job Overview:
As an experienced Structural Engineer at KPFF, you will play a pivotal role in designing, analyzing, and ensuring the stability, integrity, and safety of our projects. Your experience, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills will contribute to the successful execution of our diverse portfolio of projects. You'll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and provide your expertise throughout all project phases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform structural analysis and calculations to ensure designs adhere to relevant codes and regulations.
- Design and develop structural plans, drawings, and specifications for a wide range of projects, considering factors like loading conditions, material properties, and environmental considerations.
- Collaborate with architects, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to develop integrated and innovative solutions.
- Conduct site visits and assessments to evaluate existing structures and identify potential design challenges.
- Prepare comprehensive engineering reports, technical documents, and presentations for both internal teams and clients.
- Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software and other relevant tools to produce accurate and detailed structural designs.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and drafters, fostering their professional development within the team.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 3-6 years of proven experience in structural engineering within building design and consulting
- Strong proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., Risa, RAM, ETABS) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
- In-depth knowledge of relevant design codes and standards (e.g., ACI, AISC, ASCE).
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to adapt to changing project requirements.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate within a team and engage with clients.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Experience with sustainable and seismic design principles is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Structural Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in California
- Experience with dynamic analysis and advanced finite element modeling.
- Familiarity with sustainable design practices and LEED certification.
- Knowledge of local permitting processes and agencies in California.
- Exposure to a variety of project types, such as façade engineering, earthquake engineering, cold-formed steel design, or specialty structures.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to propose innovative solutions.
- Experience with AutoDesk, building information modeling (BIM), and related software.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time while working on a computer, reviewing plans, or conducting site visits.
- Ability to move around client and work sites, climb ladders, and traverse uneven terrain.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds of equipment or materials.
