JOB DESCRIPTION: Sterile Processing Technologist
Hours: Full-time: days w/on-call
Job Summary: The Sterile Processing Technologist coordinates and collaborates with the overall cleaning, decontamination, assembly, and dispensing of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies needed for daily surgical procedures in surgery and related departments.
Department Specific Accountabilities:
- Responsible for the coordination, assembly, and distribution of equipment and instruments for surgical cases.
- Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely according to parameters of sterilization in accordance with applicable regulatory agencies.
- Monitors surgery schedules daily, identifying general specific and potential needs for all cases.
- Provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility.
- Accurately handles and cares for instruments appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents, lubricants, examination for function, identification, assembly, and preparation for sterilization; retrieves malfunctioning instruments and ensures repairs are completed.
- Decontaminate, reprocess, and maintain flexible endoscopes.
- Monitor surgery schedules daily, identifying general, specific, and potential needs for all cases.
- Maintains appropriate records and monitors quality and infection control standards.
- Coordinates with the Materials and other departments to ensure flow and continuity of services.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent and preferred completion of a National Central Service Technician course or Surgical Technologist program.
- Preferred 6 months experience as a Sterile Process Technician
- Ability to lift 10-20 lbs.; occasional life of heavy wight of 50+ lbs. (moving patients)
Skills:
- Excellent organizational and strong communication skills
- Ability to adjust work pace on a situational basis especially in times of emergency.
- Accurately maintaining the sterilization process records.
- Strong communication skills.
- Computer skills related to Microsoft applications and EMR.
- Competent knowledge base of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and equipment
