Description:
The Sterile Process Technician follows a robust series of processes in instrument decontamination, sanitization and sterilization under general supervision ensuring all equipment is free of bioburden. Maintaining a high set of standards and procedures the instrument technician maintains, tests and assembles equipment in support of the central sterile processing to support all areas of the hospital. Our instrument technicians work as a part of a team with focus being on prioritization of instrumentation to process, customer service and dispatching inventory to the appropriate areas in a timely and accurate manner. Duties Include but not limited to: Decontaminate, inspect, function test, assemble, disinfect or sterilize instrumentation as well as equipment per Manufacturer's Instructions for Use as required. The decontamination process involves disassembly of instrumentation, robust manually cleaning with multiple steps and various cleaning agents as well as the use of ultrasonic and washer disinfectors. Manufacturer Instructions for Use are followed. Prepare instrumentation for use by inspecting, function testing and assembling, labeling and preparing for sterilization. Equipment is also assembled and/or disassembled for use such as cords rolled neatly and/or other equipment separated into components. Follow count sheet instructions and Manufacturer Instructions for Use. Knows the name of all general surgical instruments and has a general knowledge of their use. Knows specialty instruments and can assemble and prepare specialty items. Knows how to check instruments for proper working order, sharpness, etc. Prepare or Package equipment, instruments, supplies for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization. Instrumentation is packaged in Peel Packs, containers, or linen wrappers with chemical indicators for sterilization as required. Items are labeled with a lot control identifier. Sterilize instruments on loading carts or place items in the sterilizer neatly to allow the sterilant to come into contact with all surfaces. Manufacturer Instructions for Use are followed for sterilization parameters, etc. Knows how to properly operate all sterilizers. Involves general knowledge of the sterilizer operation, marking each item with a control sticker, recording items that are being sterilized, proper loading of the sterilizer cart or placement in the sterilizer, quality inspection after sterilizing and proper handling. Assures that all documentation, records and logs are accurate in a computer system and/or written form. Navigate and utilize Sterile Processing computer applications for Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization. Knows how to correctly test and operate Sterile Processing Equipment in Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization. Ensures instruments, equipment and supplies are in good condition, functional and inspects or replaces damaged or broken items. Maintains repairs processes with Mercy items and works with contracted Vendors with their Vendor items. Properly dispatches instrumentation, supplies and equipment. This involves answering telephones, taking orders and filling them as well as troubleshooting questions. Pickup and delivery of instrumentation and equipment in accordance with infection control guidelines and our department/hospital policy. Proficient in all processes and areas of the Sterile Processing Department and follows department and hospital policies/procedures. Utilizes time in a productive manner Observes universal precautions consistently and wears proper personal protective equipment when appropriate. Wears clothing and Health System badge consistent with dress code, and attends to personal hygiene to maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance. Meets Health System attendance standards. Performs other duties as directed.
