Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY:
Receives, decontaminates and processes instrumentation and equipment used in the hospital and various outside agencies, as well as the documentation of those processes. Supports System and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based Care, and Shared Leadership.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Decontamination of equipment and carts (crash or isolation) returned from the Operating Room and Procedure Room.
- Retrieving soiled instruments from the Nursing units.
- Decontamination of instrumentation received from Operating areas.
- Ordering of supplies needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Assemble instrument trays for sterilization.
- Run Bowie Dick and biological tests, and record appropriately.
- Count, wrap and process instrumentation for sterilization.
- Document accurately processing information of loads.
- Put delivered supplies away, etc.
- Provide and maintain a clean work environment on a daily basis.
- Functions cooperatively as a team member. Responds as directed by the Coordinator or Manager to the changing needs of patients and the unit.
- Offers support and feedback to peers and staff. Applies principles of caring and healing in interactions with patients and families and with colleagues.
- Seeks and supports opportunities for professional growth and development.
- Serves as coach and mentor for less experienced colleagues.
- Offers consistent and visible support to team members.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Responds to the following Shore Health System codes: Code Pink (when called), Code Red (when called) and Code Yellow (when called).
- Responsible for honest behavior in all matters. To the best of the employee’s knowledge and understanding, complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations.
- Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
- Ensures accuracy in the medication process, including, transport, storage, security, and/or administration of medications to include IV solutions.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent. Certification and/or previous experience are preferred.
