SCOPE OF WORK
The The Central Maryland Correctional Facility (CMCF) seeks skilled workers who must have a Maryland 1st Grade Stationary Engineer’s license issued by DLLR and be able to work flexible shifts. The CMCF steam plant is located inside the correctional facility’s security perimeter. All employees are required to walk into the facility and go through a security checkpoint before being escorted to the boiler plant. No personal cell phone or electronics will be permitted in this plant.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under general direction, the Stationary Engineer is responsible for the proper operation of high-pressure boilers, pumps, air compressors, fans, and auxiliary equipment. Must be familiar with steam, air, oil, and power systems in a Steam Plant and be able to follow the approved standard and emergency procedures.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Involved in the startup and shutdown of all equipment in a safe and orderly manner. Maintains records including a boiler plant log and collects pertinent data every hour. Reports any problems with operating or equipment conditions.
- Talk with the supervisor to identify steam deficiencies.
- Monitor and help troubleshoot processes and conditions.
- Familiar with boiler and feedwater chemistry and treatment
- Performs minor mechanical repairs.
REQUIREMENTS

Training and Experience
- Formal training and experience in the operation of high-pressure boilers.
- High school diploma or GED required - 5 years of experience with Boiler/Powerhouse Utilities and any processes that involve high-pressure steam generation.
Mandatory Requirements
- Must hold a valid Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer License.
- No other state or organization certification can be used to replace the mandatory requirement for the candidate to have a Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineers License.
Knowledge, Ability, and Skills:
- Thorough understanding of boilers (JCI/MCI-H - Water Tube Boilers, CMCF – Fire Tube Boilers), softeners, pumps, and auxiliary equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds, use a hand truck, and/or step ladder.
- Ability to walk and climb stairs/ladders without assistance, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift arm above shoulder level in identified positions.
- Ability to communicate in English both written and verbal.

- 6 am Sat. to 6 pm Sat. = 12 hours AND 6 am Sun. to 6 pm Sun. = 12 hours
OR
- 6 pm Sat. to 6 am Sun. = 12 hours AND 6 pm Sun. to 6 am Mon = 12 hours
READY TO WORK EXPECTATIONS
Engineers are expected to be ready to work in the boiler plant at their designated start time, wearing the MES specified uniform, including MES-specified safety gear (PPE) , engineers will not be allowed to work if they arrive without the MES specified uniform and PPE.
At no time during their shift can the Temp Engineer leave the premise of the steam plant without being relieved by another Grade 1 Stationary Engineer, i.e. for lunch, to get something from their car (CMCF), or if the next engineer scheduled is a no call/ no show. The plant cannot be left unmanned.
