Job Duties and Responsibilities:This position is at an advance technical level and provides the foundation to build continuity within the department. The scope of this job includes design, fabrication, installation, operations, maintenance and repair of radio-frequency (RF) equipment and systems used in large-scale satellite downlink and uplink operations. Performs leadership responsibilities to include training, documentation, and mentoring.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads the fabrication and installation of equipment racks, equipment and rack hardware, waveguide assemblies, RF and data cables, and fiber optic systems
- Provides technical drawings and documentation of equipment installations and configuration changes
- Conducts training and mentoring for less experienced technicians
- Acts as a technical advisor to ESO technicians and other departments
- Possesses intermediate knowledge in the functions and operations of antenna tracking systems, traveling wave tube (TWT) and klystron amplifiers, up-converters, down-converters, fiber optic transmitters/ receivers, modulators, RF matrix switches, and monitoring & control systems (M&C)
- Highly proficient in the operation of broadcast transmission test equipment. These include, but are not limited to, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, RF signal generators, fiber optic test sets, RF detectors, oscilloscopes, RF power meters, and multi-meters
- Possesses knowledge with Linux OS, GPU/CPU hardware, networking, Virtual Machine building, and management
- Composes and contributes technical data to shift reports, service outage reports, maintenance tickets, department procedures, and purchase orders
- Applies project management skills to effectively manage/lead department projects
- Performs component-level troubleshooting and repair of high-power amplifier equipment (including TWTAs and Klystrons), fiber optic systems, up-converters, down-converters, RF switching units, antenna tracking systems, and earth station ancillary equipment
- Performs routine and non-routine operations, maintenance, and repair on transmit/receive and receive only satellite antenna systems
- Conducts and coordinates outage and restoral activities including following operational procedures and escalation of notifications
- Performs additional duty management that includes, but is not limited to, tools, publications, test equipment, safety, preventative maintenance, drawings, and database management
- Performs broadcast operations to include quality service monitoring, reporting, path swaps, slating, and configuration verification
Education and Experience:
- 5+ years of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in an electronics discipline from an applicable curriculum or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills and Qualifications:
- Possesses an intermediate level of computer software skills with business software to include, but not limited to word processors, spreadsheets, databases, email, slide presentations, and technical drawing software
- Familiar with basic network computer configurations (e.g. IP addresses, subnet masks, default gateways, etc.)
- Ability to apply/perform mathematical concepts including algebra, logarithmic functions, and trigonometry
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical documentation, procedures, and drawings
- Ability to compose and present written reports and proposals to management
This position requires shift work in/near a normal office environment. Work is also conducted outdoors in all weather conditions sometimes at heights reaching up to 50 ft. In addition, this position also requires working around high voltage and RF radiation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, climb ladders, lift up to 100 lbs. with assistance, use hands and fingers to handle, feel, reach (with hands and arms), balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, distinguish colors, talk, and hear.

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location. Candidates need to successfully complete a pre-employment screen, which may include a drug test and DMV check.

Salary Range:USD $27.02 - $38.72 / Hour
