About the Job
We are looking for an experienced Staff Engineer - Platform Enclosure & Tank to provide technical direction and project leadership in the development of generator set enclosures and diesel fuel tanks. The technical scope includes a working knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, noise, and static stress analysis, as well as an understanding of sheet metal processes. A basic understanding of electrical circuits is required, particularly in relation to sizing and specifying electrical load centers and components such as breakers, lights, and transformers in AC systems. You will coordinate and guide the efforts of Engineers, Engineering Analysts, and Lab Technicians, choosing materials, components, and processes that result in high-quality, high-performance, and cost-effective generator set enclosures and diesel tanks. Additionally, you will research new technologies and apply proven technology to designs.
This position requires a self-motivated individual with a sense of urgency toward project completion and a drive to maintain engineering excellence. You must be willing to work in a team environment and manage multiple projects or tasks, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within financial commitments.
Specific Responsibilities:

Assist in establishing product requirements with Marketing Product Mangers and Sales Teams via Voice of Customer. Utilize those requirements to create a functional specification, establish design targets, identify risk and mitigation plans and develop a product validation plan.

Create project timelines and establish project development spend estimates and track project spending. Team with Marketing to present project business cases.

Provide technical and design direction to Engineering CAD Analysts, Engineers and development test technicians during the development of generator set enclosures and fuel tanks to meet performance and cost criteria.

Approve the selection of all major purchased components (i.e. silencers, motorized louvers, discharge dampers, heaters, load centers, lights, fans, and transformers, etc.) and support the selection with sound engineering calculations.

Work with Accounting and Procurement functions to track actual project spending and product costs and maintain within prescribed boundaries.

Validate designs through testing to meet performance, reliability, and durability targets.

Support, maintain and update existing product designs.

Use project management skills to keep projects on schedule.

Provide concise and timely status reports on the progress of each assigned project. Prepare technical presentations to gain alignment with the upper management team.

Lead continual improvement initiatives to streamline internal business processes and support system upgrades.

Maintain working knowledge of general state fuel code requirements. Provide technical design directions to meet requirements.

Maintain a working knowledge of UL, seismic, wind load and impact codes and standards and assure the enclosure design is in compliance with these codes.

Support the sales team's efforts to win projects and customers, which will occasionally require preparing and presenting technical presentations and white papers.
Requirements:

CAD/3D Modeling Experience Preferred

Bachelor of Science - Mechanical Engineering and minimum of 7 years of mechanical engineering experience with development of industrial or consumer products.

Educational courses or experience related to power generation, rectangular fuel tank, or enclosure design a plus.

Demonstrated skills in project management and leadership as well as the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
The salary range for this position is $98,900 - $125,600. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
