About the Job
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Participates in the design, development, integration, and assembly of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and electronics for lab experiments, prototypes, and customer deliverables.
Conducts experiments and tests to debug circuit designs by using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, arbitrary waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, and RF signal generators. Writes test procedures and maintains test records. Communicates test results to other members of the team. Implements design changes and modifies circuit boards based on test results.
Supports design, assembly, and test of wire harnesses and cable assemblies.
Performs failure analysis of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). Supports troubleshooting and resolution of issues with during system-level integration and test.
Works collaboratively with a cross-disciplinary team of engineers on technical tasks. Works under general supervision, with detailed instructions on assignments.
Education & Experience
Associate's degree and a minimum of 4 years of related experience; Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree must be in engineering, engineering technology, or a related field. Must have a solid understanding of the principles of analog and digital circuits.
Skills
Experience conducting experiments and making measurements using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, arbitrary waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, and RF signal generators is required. Understands and applies techniques for making measurements to characterize performance versus requirements. Ability to troubleshoot and analyze results to determine root cause of problems.
A solid understanding of the principles of analog and digital circuits is required. Working knowledge of programmable logic devices is desired. Understanding of and experience with RF systems and optical fiber systems is desired.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills are required. Must be able to exercise judgement to determine appropriate actions and next steps.
Proficiency with solder station for PCBA rework/repair is required.
Understanding of electrical schematics is required. Use of schematic capture tools (e.g., Altium, Orcad) is desired. Experience using PCB layout browser tools (e.g., Altium, PADS, Xpedition) is desired.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other productivity tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.) is required.
Must be able to obtain/maintain a US Government security clearance if one is required to perform the job responsibilities.
Working Conditions
Primarily an engineering function with office and lab working conditions.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift/move test equipment up to 50 lb. Ability to perform probing of small electrical parts, circuit board rework, soldering, cable assembly, and component assembly tasks which requires use of handheld measurement probes, hand tools, and soldering tools.
