About the Job
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. The Staff Accountant will support a wide range of accounting functions, work independently with minimal supervision, and contribute to the efficient management of financial processes. This role involves expertise in fixed asset management, account reconciliation, financial reporting, and the development of nonstandard reports. The ideal candidate will be proactive, analytical, and capable of solving complex accounting issues while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of tasks related to fixed asset management, including accountability, recording, reporting, and resolving issues.
- Conduct complex account reconciliations and analysis, identify problems or discrepancies, and perform comprehensive data analysis, including trend identification, deviation analysis, forecasting, and cost-benefit evaluations.
- Review, record, and report financial transactions in accordance with established GAAP, policies, and objectives.
- Develop nonstandard financial reports and statements, such as cash forecasts and interrelated accounting and budgeting information.
- Prepare financial data for inclusion in financial statements and closing activities.
- Implement and monitor policies and procedures in the assigned program area to achieve management objectives.
- Use professional judgment to assess, investigate, and resolve complex problems or projects that lack clear guidelines, policies, or procedures.
- Analyze, interpret, and develop accounting policies and standards to ensure the accuracy of the Authority’s activity costing.
- Review and authorize requisitions for posting in the financial system.
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned by the Senior Accountant.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited university or college is required. A CPA and/or Master’s degree is preferred.Experience:
At least four (4) years of progressive experience in accounting or finance.Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in automated financial systems (Oracle Financial preferred).
- Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
Additional Skills:
- Ability to work independently in a project-oriented environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
